Well, I just downloaded & installed the latest update to the Windows4eva build #95143.684716.25847.01.3c (AKA Windows 214.08.579).

It was only 42,861 PB, and includes all the features anyone could eva want in an operating system, including a quantum neural interface, unlimited gravimetrically generated virtual ram, and most importantly, NO FRIGGIN ADS

They are going to "closed garden" their OS out of existence. PC users are not mindless Apple zombies. Something else will pop up to take its place. Half the software is going web based anyway, platform-agnostic. The faster people's home connections get, the faster that shift will happen.

I actively(and forcefully) remove all of microsoft's bloatware/fluff/garbage they add in.

Does that include all the MS nagware? The bloat and nagware are the two biggest things that irritate me about Windows 10. The half-baked UI and trying to dumb down everything to be more Mac like are a close third and fourth.

Well that's what you get for not turning auto updates off..

Yes, it's called manual installation. Manually down security update packs, install, reboot, play on..

I feel you, but never saw much of it. I've always done lean & clean configs. I have ZERO tolerance for any of microsoft's shenanigans and BS.

That was because the official updates support was EOL..

EoL meant an end to production of new patches, not provision of existing ones. Dunno if they still allow the built-in, update tool to access servers today, but I'm positive they did well into 2021s.
That said, there were cases that required manual patching before 2020, although not by design (nor common).

I wouldn't put much faith in PC users. The average PC user doesn't really care much what they use, and the main reason they're on a PC not a Mac is that it was more available and cheaper.
On a side note: Cloud-based applications are the worst kind of walled gardens.
On another side note: The opposite of mindless Apple zombies are mindless Google zombies fooled into believing they aren't.

Again, "walled garden" themselves out of the desktop OS business. There are certainly more stable operating systems, more secure OSes, more performant OSes, cheaper OSes, simpler OSes and pretty much anything else you could ask for. For business, it's hard to beat Active Directory. Outside that, they have been offering flexibility and legacy support. Give up that and what is their purpose. Games are better on a nice PC, but game developers adopted the console first mentality years ago. Walled garden means less support for modding and such. The writing is on the wall, and M$ is just accelerating the transition. They won't come out and say it, but I bet they see a future with Xbox as their sole gaming platform. Probably that streaming crap to boot!

Technically we're still on Windows 10 with a major feature update on top (well, there's still some leftovers - quite big too - from Windows Vista, Windows 7 and 8 or even bits and pieces from older versions .

Anyway, I'm sure will see other major feature packs which will change the naming to Windows 12, 14 and such... which goes hand in had with the evolution of hardware - where this change of name (labeling it as a New Windows OS) - implies New Contracts with the OEM manufacturers - aka Profit. On the other hand - current hardware (the type that could run an OS like windows) - current technology - is bound to hit a brick wall in the upcoming future (probably sooner than latter - based on the way things are going/advancing). A time when Windows will also be stuck to its final build (imo). I mean, this is still fiction....

...for now. But there are some truths in that. Unless Microsoft builds a New OS from scratch - i don't see how Windows could run on a hardware involving a different technology.

As for the upcoming major feature pack for Windows - i have no expectations whatsoever. Since the lack of expectations = less room for disappointment. That's actually why i can enjoy Windows 11 - while the younger version of me - would have probaly been to stubborn t switch from Windows 10. ^^
