So I got this new mother board(ASUS MAXIMUS V FORMULA), my OS was good and valid. I swapped out my old Maximus V Gene as it was missing 1 pin in the CPU socket(my hobby CPU pin repair)keeps me busy and wanted to see how high I can over clock.
So in short the damn built in cooling barbs that Asus put in the Heat sinks are to small for my 1/2 ID hose, ugh! So I continue get it all together, and upon windows desk top I see I have the Three days to activate windows in my SYSTEM screen. I'm not looking for a free upgrade in fact was gonna buy Win 10, I assumed(im an ASS) that if I only swapped out 1 system item that I'd be OK? I just wanna upgrade at my own pace, when I choice to not when I'm told to. No hope huh?
I'll assume here, so where is the best place(price why's)for a Windows 10 disc or better question is what do you all suggest I get(windows 10 64bit/OEM 64bit/etc..)?

When you change motherboards your activation is no longer good. Usually you can call the automated number and do the over the phone activation number stuff and your good to go but technically OEMs do not transfer legally unless its the same model board. But the phone activation should work.

If the motherboard is an exact replacement,(and you just switched everything over) you should have no trouble re-activating. May need to phone in,repeat the numbers, then enter the digits...

And hopefully get the question "how many computers has this OS been used with..." you answer question, and "Cortana's brother(lol)" reads out the magic digits.

Windows throws "a fit" When the MAC address changes (when you change your motherboard or your LAN is disabled and you reboot )
Which means windows goes into that notification mode.

Shouldn't be blocked unless you're using a warez copy of Windows.

If hes used it quite a few times it could be blocked. This happened to me with my original copy of windows 7.

If it's OEM I could see it happening.

Ok, so judging by the responses, it takes just a few activations on different hardware to block the key. Learn something new every day. :)

Now I forget how to check, but there's a number of activation that is tracked via the COA... I recall an "arm count" or something like that.

I activated a OEM COA on an old Abit skt 775 board, worked fine, then a few months later installed the same COA on a new Z79 board, no problems whatsoever.

I think its a number in a certain time frame. I don't think its a total number. Ive done it too. Or he has more than one going. Had one not work than a year later it worked

Yeah, this is true. Eventually, an OEM copy WILL get inactivated forever. I've done it.

Yup, to be clear mine is a 64 bit Windows 7 OEM from the Egg, activated more then a few times. But mostly the same system different componnents IE, video card, main board,CPU.Etc. I would reformat and over clock for my HWBot team, was never put on a customer's machine if it was I wouldn't activate it for them. Because I benched I had to reformat often, lately just upgrading my personal 3 systems, plus I have started a side business which intails testing motherboards with my CPU and memory in order to keep be busy in my spare time(don't really make money)but my brain never uses park and has to stay busy. That's about the right price for it, so it should be ok. Check the disc and packaging that it looks legit before you break the seal. Many of them have stick-on holograms which are actually raised up above the disc surface rather than being embedded in the disc, among other things.

I have used the W10 drivers for my LAN, motherboard, etc, and installed as soon as W10 was installed. W10 has not tried to replace those drivers.

There are different criteria depending on what u actually change that can trigger the activation ;)

@JESTER legally than microsoft should lower their prices for retail licenses for the customers and make OEM only allowed for manufactures than all this problems would be solved ;)

I just wanted to make sure when I format or re format that I can get online(or back online). THANKS ALL!

Now I need directions how to to clean my SSD'S, I have 2 hyper's from kingston in a RAID 0. I was thinking of using Cleaner, any input? Also anyone have a list of back ground things to turn off? My few experiences with 10 is its hard to navigate it, not similar to 7, I read some where you can change it so it is similar to 7(desk top), any input on any and all?
THANKS!

As far as cleaning them. Go to the support page a Kingston and see if there is firmware available and a program to secure erase them. Any thirdparty program is just going to do unwanted writes

I have no problem navigating 10. At first it was different but its not hard

how big is the foot print of Windows 10? As I have a M2.0 but its an odd size 60GB? I'd like to transfer my page settings, also picutre's n stuff, I can do that then clean my raid latter(transfer files off of it). Gonna reboot see if the M2.0 shows in my raid config.
Yup it does...............
