It was in IDE mode so i changed it and tried it again with no luck

with the SATA controller set to AHCI, no drives connected except the DVD drive and the drive the OS is being installed to (on the BLACK ports), and you did the 'add driver' thing and got the windows installer to recognise the AHCI drivers?

I did everything but add the drivers I installed the drivers to my ati folder in my c driver

what? thats not what you need to do, lol.

you need them on a flash drive so that the windows installer can load them...

you need those AHCI drivers that installed to C:\ATI, and copy them onto a flash drive. then follow the guide above.

FYI the driver itself is hiding fairly deep, in my case its
C:\ATI\Support\10-2_win7_32-64_ahci\Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\SB7xx\AHCI\W764A (for the 64 bit driver)

I just had this problem I had to install on a separate computer....
Never did figure out the problem..
I used the AMD drivers and still got nowhere I would like to see how this gets resolved without another PC..

I have a question Did you have say x64 installed before and now trying to install x86?

anyways I get the same error trying to install Vista x86 on my seconary partition

Is it detecting your Cd/DVD drive

Yeah cd/dvd drive was detected i think and trying to go from 32bit to 64bit

I finally got Vista 32 to install..
On accident I was trying to get Xp to install again and downloaded the drivers for XP from the Link Mussels gave you..I Loaded the XP drivers on a flash card and tried to install XP it was a no go So I tried Vista 32 Just when I thought OH crap I forgot to get the Vista drivers it recognized the XP drivers and loaded..Just finished I'm testing Vista now..maybe the same will work foe you..

vista 32 will run on XP 32 drivers, but vista 64 wont run on XP drivers

I've had the same problem before while installing Windows 7 Professional (x64) and it turned out my installation disk was corrupted.
If you're using an .iso (obtained through MSDN or similar sources) make sure that its filesize matches up with your version and try re-downloading and re-burning it. In my case, that completely resolved the problem.

tried to make your usb flash drive bootable and copy your Windows over to it and boot it from there and see if you can install it from the usb flash drive with your the correct drivers from MSI's site?

are you trying to copy over? format it completely and try again. Dont try to overwrite the OS
