i have a windows 7 upgrade disk that i am trying to install. But i don’t want to install it on my main drive i want to install it on a new velocity raptor drive i got. I have windows vista installed on my main drive so is there a way i can install it on my new drive without having to install vista on it first? also i cant get my computer to boot from the cd which is weird so im thinking im going to have to install vista and then install windows upgrade over it which is stupid.

Hmm, seems odd, i wonder if you can boot into your vista, put the cd in and at somestage during the installation processes point it at your new drive?

If they haven't changed it since Vista, then you install Windows 7 WITHOUT putting a product key in during installation, choosing the same version as the one you bought, then as soon as you are in windows, you put the CD in and "upgrade" the installation.

Worked for me when I had Vista Business Upgrade, they might have changed it in Windows 7, I don't know.

 Wow thats weird, cause i actually did the exact same thing with the exact same hardrive.

Yes its more then possible, install the new HDD, boot from the upgrade CD, and instead of picking the ''upgrade option'' when it prompts you to during installation, pick ''Custom install'', it will freshly install Windows 7 on your velociraptor. Only thing is, you can't use your CD Key that came with the OS, so you need to find other alternatives to get it activated.(you can Google the options you have to activate Windows, or i believe you can call Microsoft and they may help you out getting it activated.)
