Windows Aero lag because of AMD PowerPlay?

Hi all, I am currently using a Dell S2240M monitor which is at 1920*1080. Now the problem is the Windows 7 Aero animation lags while closing and opening Windows. What I found out is the idle clocks for my GPU is core 157 MHz and memory 300 MHz which I think is insufficient for handling Aero smoothly. I tried high performance mode which fixes the CPU clock speed at max but the problem remained which is coming down again to the GPU. But when I minimized a game, everything is butter smooth. Is it because of AMD PowerPlay? If yes, any ways to fix that? Thanks.

never seen anything like that myself.

are you sure the problem isnt just the game(s) you're testing? for example saints row 3 in DX10/11 would cause crazy keyboard lag if you alt tabbed the game.

No man tested it thoroughly. When the system is idle(no games or heavy apps running), it occasionally lags. When the GPU clocks are at effective clocks, the animations are absolutely smooth(verified by CCC and GPU-Z). Is there anyway I can mod the power saving state? I tried using RBE and changed the values but it didn't work. The idle clocks remained the same.

this occasional lag will have another cause.

look into things like your hard drive idle timer (you do have a WD green), things like that can cause stutters and random, erratic lag.

i really dont think its your idle clocks causing this.

True but I have completely disabled the idle timer a few days back.

which one? the WD idle timer built into the drive, or the one in windows for spinning down the drive?

The built in one on the disk itself. I did it with a WD DOS based utility. wdidle3 if I remember correctly.

never faced anything like this. try updating windows?

if you are using chromium browser, the latest one seems to hang the system on flash heavy pages.

Ive had AMD and aero not play well before, just a thought: theres a fix you can try to lock your 2d clocks higher in CCC. Basically it involves saving a CCC profile. Locating the text file for the profile. Editing the 2d clocks to a higher clock. Save it. Then make CCC load it. I did something like this when I had some weird aero glitches on my 7850 and dual monitors.

I ended up just removing aero.

Yeah Windows is fully updated. And you are right about Chrome. After using it for sometime, it lags like hell but system performance remains normal though.

Gotta try this. But one thing, I modded the BIOS using RBE(changed the idle clocks) but it didn't work. The clocks remained the same as 157 and 300 MHz core and mem respectively. Is it because of CCC?
