I have Malwarebytes Pro installed, so is it overriding Windows Defender??? I was under the impression these two programs worked well together...

I think that Windows 7 detects two AV progs and disables (in this case) Defender. BTW, what does the control panel state about your AV program in the category "Security" -> "maintenance" (I needed to translate back, so the latter may not be accurately cited)?

I am on Windows 8, and control panel security says Windows Defender is my anti virus and firewall.

*scratches back of head*

Disable it there (if you can) and see (after a reboot) whether it is MWB Pro that is being referred to there.

In my Win 7 pro the Windows defender disabled automatically with some anti virus and internet security software. Norton did that, Kaspersky did that and Microsoft security essential did that.

Maybe, this wiki at MS will help: Windows Defender on Windows 8 - Introduction and Frequently Asked Questions
It, also, answers quite a few other questions that some people have.

A couple of quotes from the wiki page.

If you install a third-party anti-malware product, WD will be disabled. If you [properly] uninstall a third-party product, WD will be enabled.
However, you can have an on-demand scanner, such as Malwarebytes, installed. Malwarebytes offers two different scanners – one on-demand (free), and one real-time (paid). The on-demand scanner does not conflict with WD’s real-time scanning. Some users consider having one real-time product (e.g. WD) and an on-demand product (e.g. Malwarebytes (free)) a good combination on their system.
