Windows Firewall turns itself off - help

On my 2nd rig (see sig) "everytime" i startup or reboot ,win xp firewall is turned off and the balloon comes up asking if i want to enable it.

i thought it might be malware/virus but so far cannot find a trace of 1.
ive scanned the pc using the following

AVG Free
Bit Defender online scan
Housecall online scan
Panda activescan online scan

Adaware free
Spybot S&D
Spywareblaster

and the pc came up clean with every 1 of them ,except for a few tracking cookies.

have also used ccleaner/diskcleaner.

in Administrative tools/services ,the Firewall is set to "automatic" so it should start?

im really at a loss why it wont auto start anymore

any suggestions ?

did you try scanning in safe mode?
and looking for startup programs that dont belong there?

get a third party firewall? I havent had a firewall for over 3 years, and I havent had a problem thus far. Not to mention malicious attacks of any kind are much reduced in the past years for individual users. If you really are worried that much about attacks, use 64-bit operating systems, linux, or a mac.

If it turns itself off you have been infected with a trojan, there is a update to prevent this but you will need the windows hotfix to prevent it from happening again.

Search the windows site for this and download and install the hotfix and the MS provided spyware removal tool.

i have a router ,all scans in safe mode showed nothing

well ive googled and searched Windows site and not found anything that really applies to my prob,only hotfixes i see that r even close relate to Vista ,which i dont run.

if any1 can do a link to this hotfix ( if it exists) itd be appreciated

ive since run windows defender ,scanned everything in safe mode and found nothing.but the firewall is still doing its off impression on a restart

im fast running outta things to try.

get zonealarm firewall and scan your system for trojans.
