I tried Need for Speed II SE in Windows NT 4.0 and it won't open (dinput.dll not found). Need for Speed II not SE works normally.

Ok look up that error code and the game online, you should find a means of fixing the issue,

You need a certain direct X library file installed in a certain directory on your computer.

As far as I remember, NT 4.0 didn't get DirectX beyond 2 or 3, as it wasn't meant as a desktop operation beyond corporate workstations. You're better off trying 2000, ME or 98se.

From Wikipedia: "Windows NT 4.0 was the first release of Microsoft Windows to include DirectX as standard—version 2 shipped with the initial release of Windows NT 4.0, and version 3 was included with the release of Service Pack 3 in mid-1997. Later versions of DirectX were not released for Windows NT 4.0. However, OpenGL was supported; it was used by Quake 3[18] and Unreal Tournament.[19]"

I dont recall anyone in my circles back then trying to play games on NT4 for that reason. It was more of a server/workstation OS than anything else. 2000 was the next "iteration" of it, but it was vastly superior, at least in my opinion.

No drivers for Windows XP. Only BIOS. My motherboard support only Windows 7 and newer OS.

Windows 95/98 it's 100x better then Windows NT 4.0. I like Windows 95 more than 98 but Windows 98 great too. Best OS's from Microsoft. Windows XP it's not good for Windows 9x games. You need to use Compatibility.

Ok between Win 95C and Win 98Se, GET WIN 98SE, otherwise 2000 or XP. Or build a legacy rig.

I delete PCem because lag. I can't even run Windows Me without lag. Windows 98 sound lagging too. For Windows 98 is DOSBox the best and for Windows XP VMware Workstation Pro or Oracle VM VirtualBox. Windows NT 4.0 sucks. I can play Need for Speed II not SE in Oracle VM VirtualBox in Full Screen. For other games i use GOG, dgVoodoo, nGlide or patch for Windows 10.

I installed Windows 95, 98 SE, NT 4.0, Me, 2000 and XP in VMware Workstation Pro and it's the best Windows emulator. For Windows 9x games which doesn't work in Windows 10 with patches i use Windows 98 in DOSBox. PCem will be always lagging.
