Did I miss a thread on this update ? Seems this popped up about 2 weeks ago and slipped by me. Got a few calls this week from folks Win10 boxes getting borked and a bit frustrated ... Don't have any Win10 boxes to test on and only personal interest is ... "yeay, more reasons for MS to relax control, at least on 10 Pro". But I'd love to have a link to a thread that i could refer them to.Apparently affecting certain AV vendors more ( Avast, AVG, and Sophos, with Sopho ) than others. KBs of concern here are 4493467, KB4493446, KB4493448, KB4493472, KB4493450 and KB4493451, KB449350 and KB4493448

Well that adds more fuel to the fire but I doubt anyone's gonna call me for advice on their CSV setup

I asked for a link to a specific topic regarding user problems so I could educate myself and, in turn, refer users who have called and asked about recent updates.

Would it really have been more beneficial to you if instead of .... "Did I miss a thread on this update ? ... I'd love to have a link to a thread that I could refer them to. "

I'd said "Did I miss a thread on this update ? ... Can I have a link to a thread that I could refer them to ? "

The one that was related to AV software was 4493509. I'd uninstall that one first and foremost, and then check what's going on with the other ones

your topic in the title is "Windows Update KB 4493470", which is this update for Windows 10 version 1607 (build 14393)

Don't really need answers at this point as other inquiries were fruitfull w/o further explanation, but by way of explanation.

1. The phone rang, I answered it, user asked me about KB4493470 and if I knew anything about it causing unresponsive system, freezes, etc,

2. Phone rang 2-3 more times and folks mentioned other KBs that arrived with a recent Windows Update. They said they looked around saw references to other KBs associated with same problem ... I wrote them down.

3. I posted here asking if anyone knew of anything related to the questions I was asked. As this is a regular haunt, I was hoping that knowledgeable windows users here might have have some knowledge and hopefully save me a lot of web searching, especially since I have no Win 10 boxes in house, I don't normally don't read Win 10 stories.

That's it ... I don't understand where you are "getting lost". Apparently the folks calling me aren't the only ones with issues.

The KB 4493470 was included with other updates on April 09 "Patch Tuesday" which are apparently affecting two groups

1. After the KB 4493470 and accompanying updates, folks were experiencing freezes, slowdowns and completely unresponsive systems.

2. After the KB 4493470 and accompanying updates, folks with certain AV programs were experiencing problems. The ones who called me noted that when searching on KB 4493470 they found other KB references on Avast, Sophos and Avira forums.

After striking out here, I texted my son (he has windows 10 and routinely visits several on line Win 10 forums) "You hear anything about KB 4493470 or other recent updates causing problems ?" In response to that inquiry, he found mention on some forums and sent me some links. Apparently it's a "known thing".

In case anyone else is interested:

Scroll down to "Below given are the known issues with the update KB4493470"

"Microsoft has mucked something up again. The latest patch update (KB 4493470) released on Patch Tuesday, April 9, appears to have caused significant performance problems for multiple groups of users."

"Windows 10 cumulative updates reportedly causing system slowdowns":

"Microsoft’s Windows 10 Latest Update Causing Several Performance Issues. Microsoft’ released its latest update KB 4493470 to the Windows 10 users on 9th April. ..."

"Latest Windows Update Causing Freezes, Sluggish Performance" (looks like copy / paste of above)

"Computers fail/hang on boot after the Microsoft Windows April 9, 2019 update"

The list of updates released with 4493470 is a bit long to retype but can be found here.

And there is another thread hear ... along the same line also associated with April 09 Patch Tuesday
