Now comes into my possession a Steam key for this game, I already have it from GOG.com, so what to do? If you answered "host another giveaway!" you would be correct! Since things have been a little slow here lately, I figured I would liven it up a bit.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a First-Person creepy/supernatural/detective adventure game, all mixed together beautifully with stunning scenery. Now when I say adventure, I don't mean point and click. You walk in first person, investigating clues and finding out just what happened to Ethan Carter, who sent a letter to you for help. The creepiness and atmoshphere is excellent!

This game will NOT in any way shape or form hold your hand. It won't tell you where to go, and there is no HUD or map or compass. You walk as if you were a real person looking for clues in the town and surrounding environment. If you search well (and you can go just about anywhere), there are crime/murder scenes where if you gather the clues, you can put together the events at each scene. If you put them in the correct order, you get a nice cut scene of the events that happened at that location, which will bring you closer to determining the fate of Ethan Carter. Do this for all of them, reach the final crime scene, and you will ultimately prevail.

Oh, and it's FREE! :D

So what do I need to do to enter, you ask? Well, here goes:

1. Have a Steam account.
2. Have been a member for a week, and have at least 10 posts and 2 thanks by the time contest closes.
3. Because I'm always on the lookout for games I might not have played, play along and tell me your favorite creepy or supernatural or detective game you have played(it can be any or all of the three types), and what was so good about it. I'm sure everyone has at least one of any of those categories. **This last one is optional, but is much appreciated if you participate, as most of the people who have been around awhile know that some interesting answers are frequently given.

I will keep this open 2 to 3 days, as long as there is sufficient interest before drawing a random winner. If people are interested, I may keep it open a bit longer.

Good Luck all!

@Capitan Harlock I too loved Dear Esther. Despite the question of whether it's a visual story or a game, the atmosphere was excellent, and the narration brilliant!

tell me your favorite creepy or supernatural or detective game you have played
The only game that has all these and I've played is Call of Cthulhu. It was so scary I never finished it.

BTW I'm in, and thank you for the awesome giveaway.

Maybe not adventure as such, but when it comes to supernatural, FEAR still freaks me out. After all these years I still haven't finished it. I always decided to play it late in the evening and with all the weird crazy shit happening witjh Alma floating around and blood dripping from everywhere just stops feeling comfortable place to be lol.

I guess it's something about supernatural. I could play Aliens games despite the scare shit they deliver, but I always know it's just a very powerful creature that you can kill. But with Alma, she's above all that, she has the GOD mode enabled. And I think that's the main reason why I praise FEAR so highly on the creepiness scale. I just hate it when things happen without anyone affecting them for real (like lockers opening by themselves in sequence).

Sure why not :) Sign me up

I guess I would say my most favorite "creepy" game would have to be Doom 3, that game, when it first came out was the definition of "can't see sh!t" and all of a sudden your being blasted. Used to play it in the dark with headphones on (closed back headphones). so.........

Runner ups:
Original Resident Evil
Condemned
Dead Space
Alien Isolation (Currently Playing)

Favorite "Detective" - like game would have been myst. I know it's uber old at this point, but when it first came out, this game was beautiful. Then adding that on top of trying to figure out all the puzzles and putting the pieces together made for a lot of fun, and TONs of time invested.

I've just re-installed all 3 games on Steam few days ago. I have to finish Enclave from GOG and then I'll go on FEAR. Yeah, i really want to finish it, but I'm like that. It took me like 2 years to finish Bioshock 2 because I got some weird showstopper bug and gave up. For me it doesn't matter when I finish them, for as long as I do at one point :)

Just toughen up, play in the morning, open the window while the sun is out, and put some music on in the back ground. No way you can get scared with all that.
