WIP: mITX Steambox PC

Greetings. I have a new upcoming rig. This time, like what the header states: a Custom Steambox. While I do know that there's tons of parts out there to build one, I'm kinda scratching my head in choosing which part is best without regretting after purchasing it. Anyways, the budget limit will be under $1500, which may be a little tight, but it's still powerful enough to drive most games on 1080p without generating much heat to keep it going. Accessories however I got it checked. Specsheet will be something like this:

- Intel Devil's Canyon CPU
- Intel Z97 mini-ITX board that has TONS of ports
- 8GB or more RAM
- mid-high end VGA card
- single SSHD or with an SSD
- 80+ Gold PSU (fully modular units)
- Mini-ITX casing that supports watercooling
- AIO CPU Cooler Kit

ANY kind of variants from your opinions based on this base specsheet will be much appreciated. Images of the parts will be also appreciated, though I personally scratched out MSI as their products are somewhat flashy & has too many features in which I dun use much... add-ons such as LED strips & performance casing fans (with or w/o LEDs) are much appreciated.

If you can help me, I would appreciate it. *update: Since there's some Z170 ITX boards, I might shift to a Skylake CPU powered Steambox. GPU choice is obviously Nvidia parts since AMD is a little more of a power guzzler & makes lots of heat for not so much performance on the same price range like what Nvidia offers.

Would you be buying from Malaysia? For an itx build I would think of the case to start out first. How compact would you like it to be?

The case that come to mind that provide water cooling option and good space to work around is the Thermaltake Core V1. It is a nice looking cube case. It is abit large for an itx case. You would have no problem fitting a Long graphic for this at all and also having a Long Psu.

The most compact you can get and still have the ability to water oil would be the Silverstone sg13 case using 120mm radiator. Or the expensive case m1.

For ddr4 ram a pair 8GB would do well if you can find for the right price.

If space is a premium I would have an ssd and a 2.5 HDD.

no OS cause you may use steam os, no DVD drive cause wont be needed, you can install Steam OS with a pen-drive...

@MIRTAZAPINE: Well, for the casing, it's Bitfenix Prodigy ITX. Has good water-cooling support. For the RAM, I think a basic 2666MHz DDR4 kit, whether it's Avexir or Kingston in 8GB flavour would be enough. I'll keep an eye on the price. Storage drives on the other hand, I would put an SSD into the mix but that'll be later. For now, I'll opt for 2 x 2TB Seagate SSHD since it's cheaper & speeds is quite decent.

@peche: This build would be dual-boot, with both SteamOS & Windows OS, thus I'll be employing 2 SSHDs for this build. Installing them with a USB stick, so I'm in the green.

well what about the list i made for you? does it meets all your requirements? what about peripherals? and screen? didn't listed because your didn't specify you will need one, so let me know to see what i can do for ya,

@peche the list is quite an interesting build. Peripherals aside, I already got it covered since it's gonna be part of the living room where my 60 inch FHD LED TV is. =)

excellent, hope the list / build could fit your requirements, you may add or replace SSD / HDD on that build,
GTX 970 will be enough for 1080p gaming, im afraid if your screen offers more than 1920 x 1280 you may need something like GTX 980 - 980ti

@peche the 680 is good for 1080p at the moment... but the 970 can do both FHD & 1440p if not mistaken... anyways thanks for helping me out.

I did one of these a while back. SG-05B a GTX470, H55N/4.8ghz xeon (lynnfield i7) and raid with an H70 and 38mm fan. Worked excellent, until I started burning boards out. I will see if I can dig pictures up.

correct, 970 can take FHD and also medium settings on 1440,
i do own a 680 that can easily do 1080 [FHD] so at the moment ill stick on it, will see if i could get another parts for my build such as new case and maybe a custom water cooling,
in your case the 970 will fit perfectly cause next cards will be here 2016 as far as i know....
