Wireless from AP is slower than wireless from router?

I have asus ac1900 as main router and tplink deco m4 as ap and 400 mbps download speed from isp. Is it normal for 5ghz mode on AP is slower than the one from router?

Looking at a couple testing reports of that model, the wireless backhaul between the main tower and the satellites seems to be a bottleneck. Close proximity tests showed almost 200Mbps slower on the satellites than at the main.

You don't talk about distance from AP to wireless device. While 5GHz has the potential to be considerably faster than 2.4GHz, the effective distance with the 5GHz band is very limited. And that limit can be greatly reduced even more by the number of barriers (walls, floors and ceiling), the construction of those barriers (wall board with wooden studs, wall board with metal studs, concrete, etc) and the content of those barriers (metal wires and metal pipes) in between AP and wireless device.

As seen here, there are at least 3 different ASUS AC1900 routers. So a specific model number is needed for a complete understanding. Also, as seen here, the top 5GHz speed of the Deco M4 is 867Mbps. Of course, those are ideal but still should be faster than your ISP.

ASUS AC1900 = 3x3 MIMO = 1300Mbps Theoretical Maximum with 5GHz
Tp-Link Deco M4 = 2x2 MIMO = 867Mbps Theoretical Maximum with 5GHz

Obviously, speeds will scale accordingly with interference and such. So the 3x3 configuration will likely be about 30% faster.
