It was a good time when OCed low-end VGAs and CPUs were able to run good all kind of software. Its not possible this days to get GPU with is able to gain 60% of OC-performance............ I love those days.......

Overclocking is for new guys.
9500 Pro to 9700 Pro is what big boys do (or did back in those days) :)

That's why I joined TPU, a BIOS mod (to a 9500 non-pro to Pro IIRC) it unlocked quite a few extra shader units and worked great. Got a $400 video card for $250... don't quote me on those prices ;)

Not really , Fury could be unlocked to Fury X and more recently an RX 460 could be unlocked to an RX 560. However yeah , I don't think we'll see much of this anymore from now on.

RX460 unlocked give 10-15% of OC-performance. R9550 gives you 60% out of the box. 60% its a minimum oc-gained-performance. 250MHz@425MHz for core and 200@250 for mem gives 60%. Core could be clocked even 525MHz and memory 260-270MHz. So 60% could be turned into 80%.

250MHz to 425MHz = +70% core
200MHz to 250MHz = +25% memory

250MHz to 525MHz = +110% core
200MHz to 260-270MHz = +30-35% memory

The 60% performance increase in the vid is the 30 FPS to 48 FPS on the map screen.

These days you can just download a new GPU from interweb! Thanks to rebrandeon, you can upgrade your RX480 to RX580 through downloading!

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
Thanks to rebrandeon
oh rebrandforce is also in that race ... M to P no big differences just like from RX4XX to RX5XX just a refresh with some tweak sometime :p
and who's not happy to go from a 150$ R9 290 to a R9 290X via BIOS (i should have kept it and tried the R9 390/390X ...) i can't do that with a 970 tho ... impossible to download more vRAM to go from 3.5+0.5 to 8

as for the original post :D nostalgiaaaaaa nostalgiaaaaaa good remembrance thanks :toast:

I miss the times of flashing video cards... I did a number of GeForce and Radeon cards to Quadro and FireGL for CAD users trying to keep it cheap.
Overclocking heavily on stock cooling was awesome but I didn't start clocking GPUs until the x1*** series.
