Not sure this is relevant anymore, GTX 1080 are in stock MSRP at Best Buy and not sold out in 30+ hours still, and I have seen all GPU prices coming down fast, even Ebay 1080 Ti's are not breaking $800 on bids anymore. Mining is dying fast. Ethereum I think is close to under $300 a coin and that was the main thing nvidia cards were mining to my knowledge, another two weeks and Ebay will have $500-600 1080 Ti's flooded the market.

and as far as AMD goes, well they can keep mining their 20 coins, I could care less because AMD still can't provide me the performance I need at 165hz 1440p gaming. so AMD can stay inflated for all I care, until they become relevant performance wise, if that ever happens, doubt it.

Needed a 5th option, bargain hunt. I bought a 1080ti in December new (and an Aorus oc'd Gigabyte one at that) for under $800 off of Amazon. You just have to hunt around and be quick. I would have had to do a whole (whole) lot of searching before I would have resorted to getting taken for $1200+. I had the same story with ram which I also got on sale. Time is worth something, but you should still feel good about a purchase and paying a 150% markup or more due to greedy flippers or retailers would make that pretty tough to enjoy.

I found some 1080 ti's on heatware for $680 shipped, 3 fan versions from highly reputable people. lol. mining must be done again for another 6 months. until Etheruem announces a new algorithm that changes the world! lulz what a joke the whole lot of it. cryptocurrency is a pyramid scheme with a 7 billion population to pool from, its never going to end. im glad i got my build done now.

Buying new parts is the last resort for me usually.
I've had great luck with used and refurbished parts over the years.

With my luck, if I tried that shit, there would be someone in the store with a gun. I'd get shot and pee into a bag for the rest of my life. (In prison)

that's even becoming a no option for me seeing how most of this new hardware don't support all my needs as the 'older '' did . lack of OS support if needed to use say XP for something that's out cant natively use my great old CRT monitor for gamming , that's out , but this stuff cost as much or more $ and cant do this or that any more with out you now having to support them instead of them supporting you ? ya, sounds like money well spent or spending more money to support your new hardware on top if its cost today ..

this stuff is a joke anymore and there laughing all the way to the bank . gimmicks and hype is now over any support or service sad how RBG lighting is now a strong selling point . go figure ?

We've seen a lot of (what I think is) artificial fluctuations in prices for PC gear over the years. They come up with some mighty suspect reasons for the phenomenon too.
Memory prices went north due to a fire.
HDD prices went up because of a flood. (and never got back down to pre-flood prices)

Supply and demand issues with GPUs, coupled insufficient manufacturing quotas have made prices into obscene parodies, all at the expense of the consumer.

But you can't blame the GPU makers for not ramping up production.
They're making more money with the current situation than they would if they were producing three times as many products, and all without changing a thing!

Make no mistake! They don't want to see a change. They're realizing that consumers will pay more and more to get the really good parts for our PCs.
They're gonna capitalize on it too. It will never end.

Look for a butterfly-fart in Indonesia to double PSU prices soon,.................

Until a brand comes around, that releases products for low prices, while delivering the same performance and features, stealing sales and driving the market down....again.

When my GTX980 died last year I thought buying a PS4Pro would solve my problem. It did, but only temporarily. Console games are generally less appealing than PC counterpart, and exclusive games are getting boring real fast since they are essentially 'more of the same'. 4 months later I came across a used 1080ti at (relatively) low price so I went for it without hesitation. Now I'm back at PC gaming again and couldn't be happier. It also surprises me that my 7-year-old CPU still pump out 100+fps in most games easily.

The i7-2600K is an awesome CPU.
I had two of them at one time and both were still going strong when I sold them.

Mining has ruined gaming that’s for sure. I haven’t had a new GPU since my Fury and I don’t plan on paying these prices.

I’m a medium game settings now as is and I plan to buy a console or completely stop gaming until prices are back to normal or crypto currency has finally died out.

You’ll be surprised how many miners will come into this thread to tell you that everything’s OK., prices are coming down. What they didn’t tell you it’s only OK for them. Lololo

Would be nice if they figured out a way to make a gaming GPU that did not mine effectively.

It’s only a matter of time before the market realizes and people start losing their jobs in the gaming industry because if there’s no one purchasing games they’ll Ask why. I predict a massive decline soon as systems struggle to keep up. We only have mining to thank for it.

My current system I am not to worried. I am looking at adding a second 16 Core AMD Opteron for 32 physical cores. Other then that I think I am doing fine on the hardware side of things. Well unless a 1070ti or 1080 has an appealing price. Until then my 1060 6GB will have to due. Fortunately I bought my 1060 6GB before graphics card prices went crazy.

Keep what I got. Pcs here range from 2600k to 7700k and no one's complaining. And while GFX card performance increases have been phenomenal, sometimes as high as 50% per generation... we still don't have a card capable of 144 Hz at 4k.... so can't really get excited about anything at this time..
