Wobbly USB port on my case

I can't say whether this was the case from when I bought my Corsair 500R case or not, but the USB ports don't firmly seat whatever cable you have plugged in there.

Instead of being firmly installed, the cable can "wobble":

This causes an insecure connection when the device is plugged in. It's not uncommon that the device just disconnects and then I have to wiggle it again to get it to connect.

Is this a common issue?

All USB ports do have some "slop" side to side, but what you show in that video may be exacerbated by the fact that the ports run vertically, allowing the weight of the cable to apply unwanted pressure.

USB sockets are pants imo, the socket inner ID is not close enough to the USB plug OD hence the slop.

Yes, that's what I think too. My laptop(s)'s USB ports are much tighter and more reliable connectivity-wise. Do you think replacing the built-in front-panel ports with new ones purchased at an electronics store will help? I can find such ports easily that are used for hobby work.

Maybe, but this issue is mostly when you are initially trying to connect say an external HDD. Unlike a laptop where you can just plug in and it works, here you have to wiggle it to get it in correctly, but then it holds(not perfectly, but yeah).

There are 3 distinct possibilities here:

1) The ports themselves are uber-cheapo units that were not made exactly to spec by some foreign (you know who) skimper-crapper mfgr (most likely)
2) Same deal but with your cables..... have you tried several different cables to determine where the actual fault lies ?

Or 3) - a combination of both 1 & 2...

If you've had that case for a while (a few years or moar), the ports could have just become slightly worn from plugging/unplugging, again mostly due to el-crappo materials used by the mfgr....

I had a case a few years ago with this exact same issue, so I just replaced the ports with much better ones and never had any issues from that time forward, and at that time, I was plugging & unplugging a multitude of peripherals quite frequently due to my various activities that required it (mainly because that case only had 2 ports on the front)

I have two 500R's currently in use and I put aftermarket front USB 3.0 panels in both of them. Far better quality plus if your mobo has two internal USB 3.0 sockets like mine do you'll have 4 horizontal instead of 2 vertical ports. I've learned from experience the USB ports that come on most cases are garbage.

BTW the Corsair 500R is my favorite computer case ever. I still think it's the best one they ever sold.

In an ideal world you shouldn't be able to see the metallic part of the connector at all when you plug in a cable. When fully inserted there's no wobble, it looks like the ports are too short or haven't been installed deep enough to there's at least 1-2mm distance between the front panel plastic and the port's shield, notice how there's usually a small gap between the ports on your mobo and the I/O plate.

sometimes not coz the port only but the mounting that not secure , you may open the front bezel and check it up
