Wondering about SLI

I know with SLI you need both of them as the same video card type and so on but i would like to know are you able to run SLI with the same video card but one has one extra feature?

Example: i have a Galaxy 8800GT HDMI and its exactly the same spec as Galaxy's normal 8800GT minus the HDMI feature so would i be able to run SLI of the normal Galaxy's 8800GT with my HDMI edition?

yeah, you will have no probs there m8.

SLI will run fine with any 2 versions of 8800GT. The faster of the 2 cards will just slow down to match the other card. (if they have different clocks that is)

nope they have same clocks xD
sweet might have to get one (need a new motherboard first )

as long as it the the same GPU, like 2 G80GTX's or 2 G92GT's or 2 G71's youll be fine.

no i believe not, because even though the cards may be based on the same core they still need to be the same internal configuration to work.

even with G92 the cores are codenamed G92-270, G92-400 etc..., and even if you could hex edit the bios to read as the same, as soon as you tried to game i get the feeling it wouldnt work, hell it mite not even enable sli in the first place.

see although all 3 of the aforementioned cards are G92, the GTS is the only one utilizing all of the core, and the unused sections of the GT and GS core are either lazercut or dont exist.

still dude, this is my extrapolation from my experiences and what i have read/learned, so it "may" work, but i dare say it shouldn't.

With newer and newer chipsets that come out, supposedly ATi is going to release what is called "CrossfireX". Which does not require the same gpu.

yeah but as of yet at least thats only for the combination of the IGP and the most sh*thouse ATi card you can buy, like the 3450 or some crap like that, why anyone would buy it jsut to crossfireX and game i have no idea. from the combination of that you probably wouldn't even see the fps of one 8600GTS...
