workstation and gaming video card in same computer?

My buddy asked me to build him a computer to replace his laptop. Hes going to be using it for gaming and also CAD work. I was planning on putting in either single 4870 or 4870x2 and also a FireGL. Is it possible to do this? having both cards in the same computer one card for gaming and the other for CAD.

it SHOULD be possible.

His operating system could determine a few things, but the best bet is to get a driver that works (EG, latest catalyst) and then modify it to support the fireGL. (investigate it from a laptop GPU standpoint, you'll find lots of info on modding the driver inf's)

I dont know how the CAD programs work, if they'll let you choose what GPU is doing the work. AFAIK, theres very little difference between CAD cards and gaming cards, except the drivers.
