Maybe I'll jump on bloodsail as a warrior tank or rogue (rouge in channel speak) but I really don't have the time anymore. I'm lucky if I have one free hour every other day to play PC games.

Yeah this. I've played some Nostalrius, some WotLK private servers ... and honestly I prefer playing with expansions. It's still slow compared to modern WoW, but not as slow as vanilla. And some modern QOL stuff I truly missed in nostalrius, like bigger stack sizes. If you're a miner you need to go back to a capital very often to unload. Also more flight paths is really nice.

it took me like 60 hours playtime to get my level 40 paladin mount... the black diamond... ugh... i'm sad I still remember this from 2004...

mhhh ... nope not really ... i did all already of WoW vanilla ... and i doubt i would redo it out of nostalgia ... although the best of the lot were indeed Vanilla and Burning Crusade

i stopped WoW right after mhhh ... Legion and didn't touch it anymore

yep I'm so glad I didn't go back. I almost did, I was addicted in 2004/2005 cause it was fresh and new to me. but after watching some twitch tv last night of the launch, i'm so glad I moved on... and didn't waste $15 on a sub... just not for me... so many great games to play as it is and so little time. WoW Classic did not age well, it was great in the context of the time it was released in, but i will savor those memories and make new ones, not spend 50 days playtime reliving them... who has the time anymore besides these streamers or people on disability... its a new age of information and smartphones, that stuff wasn't really a thing back then, so time just moved slower... in a way I kind of miss those pre-smartphone days.

Never got into WoW, I played Diablo2 off and on, but WoW was a dark pit of poopsock I didn't want to fall into, I had friends that played it and they would lose years of their lives to it. No thanks.

well that's only if you got in in a bad way ... i made a lot of friends in it, in addition to my RL friends that were playing with me ... and we would also host meetup party and BBQ all around europa each time one member of the guild felt to set up one no matter if he/she was just on the other side of Switzerland or in France or in Belgium or ... well whatever the country ... just got a bit of an issue when one of our member who was also French speaking like most of us ... told he was about to throw one for the guild ... and then proceeded to finally tell us he was Canadian (if he did live in longueuil i would definitely have gone .... i have family there )

all in all it depend how you approach the game and i did a lot .... from guild master to class master for Paladin War and Death Knight passing thru raid leader for Molten Core Blackwings Lair Zul Gurub Kharazan and most of Burning Crusade raids, but i never considered the time spent in game having fun with friends as lost

Doesn't sound so bad. My friends that got into it were peeing in bottles. I guess they learned it from being military. When they were in the WoW phase I just stayed away.

edit: These guys would literally use "poopsock" as a verb as a synonym for "grind". I think (or hope) it was meant in an ironic sense...

ah ... i knew some like that ... but they weren't in our guild ... they went in these kind of (rofl) "hardcore professional gaming" guilds ...
the funnier ... they didn't even advance much faster than us in our casual family oriented guild, we had timeframe adapted to everyone in the guild and event organization for fun, even managed some high ranking in pvp and arena without pushing much...

the game is not the issue in the end

Same here.
Played D2 for 5-6+ years with smaller/bigger breaks but never got into WoW.
Some of my ex D2 friends did and tried to drag me in,tried the game briefly but its really not my thing.

I prefer faster paced/action MMOS and played one for 7 years or so,even tho I have some fond memories of it and even made a few good friends who I still stay in contact with I can't help but feel that I wasted so much time with that game.
That and even to this day I'm yet to catch up with all of the good single player games I've missed out meanwhile.

Looked at it on twitch and it looks better than I expected it to, machines today are capable of higher resolutions than 15 years ago.

Yup, but you still have the same super low resolution textures and low poly models and generally empty world, by today's standards.
I mean I have such awesome memories of Anarchy Online, but I wouldn't be able to play it even if my entire guild from ~2005 returned.

I played WoW when it launched - played about 3 months. I tried a few classes, but in the end I mainly played a hunter. I got him to level 30 or 35 and thrilled to upgrade into mail armor (though it didn't really help much, if at all). I tried joining a couple of "active" clans, but I didn't play enough to keep up with everyone in the clan and they rapidly out leveled me.

I also remember trying out the PvP arena where you capture the flag - I was always on the losing side. No one, ever, wanted to work together and coordinate. It was just some shitty free-for-all and you'd get slaughtered. Then all the retards that wouldn't work together were now bashing each other, calling names and complaining that no one was working together and they'd just bicker.

I grew tired of the nonsense and stopped playing. When Burning Crusade was about to launch, I thought I'd give WoW a second chance and subbed for a month - and during that month BC was released and there was a massive resurge of players. I think jewel crafting came out with BC which meant silver and platinum ore were now in very high demand. I had, for no real reason other than I could, been building up my ore stash in the storage bank. All of a sudden silver ore and platinum ore was the hot commodity. I had 60-70 stacks of this stuff stashed away and I made hundreds and hundreds (if not thousands) of gold on the AH and I kept farming it and selling. After a few weeks I grew bored of the game again and just kind of phased it out and I didn't resub after that. I don't even recall my account name nor password I used back then.

Even if I wanted to jump into Classic to see if it's like I remember it, I can't afford the time to really get into the game. While I think the idea is kind of neat, it just isn't something that'll fit my life with having so many other games and a wife and kids....
