Is it worth getting the 2080 I got the cash but is it worth it see my system specs. I should still be able to play new games this fall on on the highest settings.

I know how some game developers get ,they put the highest and newest gpu recommended on the game specs to get you to upgrade. But I'm sure I can play assassin's Creed odyssey at 4k 60fps

You can do that too with an 1080Ti if prices drop you might want to grab one, 2080 is only 5% faster then 1080Ti. Or spend 1,2k on an 2080Ti.

Half the time I think they pull those recommended specs out of their ass...

The only upside to the RTX series is it can use... RTX tech, which can look cool, but make the game run as if you were playing on a GT1030.

I probably would wait for reviews and maybe some YouTube videos on it if I ever decide to get one I'm sure they won't sell out for months for mining.

Worth??? None can tell till the numbers are out. The only numbers we know for sure is the ones that are gonna hurt our wallets. Keep waiting and save that money for now. Maybe is more than worth it maybe not

People will buy all them out for mining but let's hope not for that price I can go to LA, California for a weekend, or rent a 720s in Las Vegas for 24hr.

I haven't seen anything about RTX series mining performance. I'm pretty sure miners aren't gonna be buying them though, unless those tensor cores do something amazing for mining.

Well...wait for the benchmarks off course....but from what we already see so far and + some "leaked" benchmarks we can expect that RTX 2080 is possibly around 5%-10% faster then GTX 1080TI and if you are hyped about RTX(tech) then could be worthed.....from other side if you do not care about RTX and you only care about raw power and price/performance then get yourself some of the Nvidia-Pascal GPU´s....

I have great fear that this RTX stuff is just another Phys-X. It might be cool to be an early adopter, but what's on offer really isn't going to give you something worth the increased cost alone. So we really need to see performance first, since it seems that NVidia is keeping the 10-series cards alive for some time yet, and the 20-series will simply cost more than the 10-series because of the RTX stuff and what is likely to be 15-25% performance increase (just going by shader numbers).

I did see the supposed 2080 Timespy benchmark, but I don't trust that benchmark as the results given are very suspect in my books (in other words, what it showed was a 1080ti @ 2025 MHz paired with a x299 i7-7740X that was scoring lower than my 6700K, and not a 2080 score at all). So any performance metrics given don't tell us anything.

IMO with current 1080 you will be safe for about year till RTX refresh with higher performance and lower prices, only crazy developers will do crap rendering path and destroy visuals for most of the consumers, who don't have newest shiny nvidia tech

Doesn't the chip have an RT core designed specifically to handle Rey, as opposed to physx ? So it shouldn't decrease fps compared to 10 series cards and below.

I've pre-ordered one just to have some fun with it, but I would not advise this...I will 99% send it back unless I get 60-70% performance increase which I don't think will be the case. I would say keep your card for now and have some fun instead like you said

BTW I've just cancelled my pre-order as I don't even think I need to have a play with it as it is pretty obvious what the outcome is: up to 45% performance improvement but almost double in price...
