If work wise these gains are important and you need the upgrade, yeah, otherwise I would personally wait for the late 2020 cpu/gpu releases. Someone mentioned it already, worst case you'll be able to pick up a 3000 chip on the cheap, and it's not like we're talking ages, just a few months

Keep in mind my work is less demanding computer resource wise (and I do still use the pc for personal entertainment 90% of the time)

I don't know if by default or if the review used it at all, but yes, I believe it can use the GPU for some tasks.

This is true. Lol I'm just torn I guess I mean I can hold out until 4000 series. Still thinking on holding off, but I do need memory upgrade that's for sure.

As for gpu acceleration mines alway been set on auto. So I'm going to assume it's on by default.

Hey, i was only wanted to give you perpective of the CPU on the workload that you need it. If you can wait, then wait...
It can only lead to better result for future, with either a better CPU or a cheaper one...
If your current system does not "damage" you work profit then just wait.
The RAM you can upgrade it now and use it later for the next CPU. Either you purchase a 3000 or 4000 CPU, both will use same AM4 socket and DDR4, so...
New socket and maybe DDR5 will be used later on 2021~22.

The 1700X may work well with 3200MHz RAM, but for a 3600MHz it is not so sure. Still if you need to upgrade RAM right now to 32/64GB kit I suggest to buy a 3600 kit even if the 1700X cannot run it on its rated speed. Later on, after whole system upgrade, you ram will be ready to run on full potential.

Then you can find the kit you like and try to run it on 3600 and if its not successful then.. 3200 until you upgrade.

so an update lol

i did get a new cpu (not here yet), but its not a 3900x like i wanted. so i got a 3700x to hold me until 4000 series is released and only paid 265 USD for new inbox so couldnt pass that up.

As for memory i got 32GB OlOy warhawk 32GB 2x16 3200 kit and running @ 3400 on my 1700x
i know i know you get what you pay for, but honestly im really impressed with this kit so far.
stuck them in the asus board right off the bat it was set at 3400 lol.
new board is asus strix b450-i gaming got a really good deal on it.

will be getting new video card soon as well as an m.2 nvme ssd.
