Hey guys is it worth waiting for the more affordable Kepler GPUs..? probably wat wud be called the GTX 650 or the 660.. because i was goin to get the GTX 560.. so should i wait for some time? Performance will off course be good, but will the prices be in the same range? That is $170-$200? and any news on when they will launch?

Yeah that "middle" card is all that is missing from the new lineup. I would think it shouldn't be too long before it's out.

Depends how you look at things, as for me if i am to buy nvidia 6xx i will not go lower than GTX670 coz i dont want anything with less than 256 bit memory bus width. i know the GTX660 will have acceptable good performance over previous gen despite what the rumors suggest that it could be a 192 bit or 128 bit bus width to me even if it delivers that's too much crippling on a very good chip.

It's pretty much obvious by now that Nvidia has no mid-range chip unless there's gonna be some major surprise and out of the blue a GK106 will pop out. So maybe next month another crippled GK104 will appear under GTX660 moniker. I don't know how's AMD doing but they should sell a lot of the 7870/50 and 7770/7750. To be honest I don't understand what is NVidia up to. In around six months we'll see the 8000 series from AMD and the 600 series has one chip available??

Back to your question, I don't think the 660 will be less than 250$ and will be launched in the next month(s) not in July.

its silly to buy anything mid range in the current generation... The new cards offer nothing new in terms of tech or performance, and they cost way too much money for what they do offer. You are much better off getting the high end of last gen used for a little $ than spending $$$ for the same if not worse performance and slightly less power consumption.

I mean a 6970 can be found for cheap and you can buy a freaking 480 for $200 bucks retail, or $160 used. Both of those can easily match the power of the 7870 for $100 less.

At the end of the day, mid range, to me, means "best card for the money" and there is nothing in the current product line of the 6 nv/7 amd series that meets that.

here is an unlocked 6950 for a buy it now at $185...

An OC Radeon HD 7850 slightly above what your looking for $200 around $240-$260. You can find a non-oc for less and oc yourself.

They perform like a GTX 570 while using about half the power consumption and run 20c cooler or more depending on the one you get.

New 570 are being sold at $260-$280
560 Ti $220-$250 but perform much slower than a 7850

560 ti 448 core are basically 570's... I would not get a new 570, there are so many used ones around... you can get a 580 on ebay for $280

What does 192 bit bus cripple? People say you wont notice the difference in games until its under 128 bit bus.

If we assume that GTX660 will be based on the GK104, and GK104's full potential is the GTX680, it will mean that the GTX660 is crippled way too much first by laser catting off some SM's to make the Cuda/shaders less then by reducing the memory bus to 192 bit or 128 bit so it doesn't get same memory bandwidth as its bigger brothers, to me that's a chip that has been mutilated excessively. unless GTX660 comes with GK1xx

dont wait, play games now. next-gen will cost proportionally as much as current gen + some price premium, i dont see any price-wars happening on the gpu market right now

I thought that was a a joke. They amd 8000 and nvidea coming out in august? Or by what your saying... 6 months from now.

To be relevant to the op. Amd does have very good mid range cards. You seem like you are set on nvidea though. The waiting isn't fun so on that alone I say nvidea mid range cards are not worth the wait.

I don't like the suspense companies do before releasing products because i think all this waiting is pointless, not everyone will be waiting for their products and jump to buy them when they're released,
i myself didn't wait and just upgraded to a used GTX580 from a dead GTX295 for the money i had.

As for OP, maybe you should list your system specs so we can tell if it's worth the wait if you want or just recommend something else for you.

Well guys in my country (India) the pricing system is totally bad.. A 6970 still costs about $460 (Rs 23000) let alone the 480, the GTX 560 itself is for $200 (Rs 10000).. and that's as far as my budget goes. Waiting more adds more problems.. the dollar value is rising day by day (or i should say rupee is falling) and things keep on getting expensive here.. other thing is that i game at a fairly low resolution (1366x768) so i guess the 560 wud be enough for me.. So what say now? wait for the 560?

If you keep the same monitor the coming years, a Geforce 560 will be sweet and sufficient!

Now I get the situation. Yes the 560 will be enough at that res. If you can squeeze a 560Ti it would be even better. Go for it.

GTX 660 with 1152 processors and 192 bit bus is like the 460 SE or 560 SE.

25% of the full middle chip were disabled. And it costs 130$ at launch following the 87.5% enabled chip by 4 months.

But for this to happen that way the 28nm costs have to amortize first and the High end 2304 processor chip must be present for at least few months at 500$, but it will remain at 700 initially until the full high end 580-like appears. So in 12-18 months maybe we get GTX 760 with higher clocks with 1152 processors at 130$.
