Excellent.
I've never bought a sound card before, because I always thought the integrated audio on my HP sounded just fine.
This'll save me a bit of money.

Now what concerns me most is whether or not all of this would fit into the case..
I know, I worry too much.

I wouldn't buy a sound card, just because audio is generally good enough (for me) anyway, and it's not worth the extra money.

By the time I have the money to buy the parts, the rebate would have expired.
It'd be mid January, early February before I can buy the parts.

One last question before I go to bed.
The hard drive on my current PC, a HP Pavilion 512w, is a "Samsung SC-148C", and is loaded with games and programs I'd really like to transfer to my new PC.

The question is, could I hook it up to the new PC, and copy everything over to the new HDD?
Or is this particular hard drive not compatible with the new motherboard and/or power supply, being as old as it is?

Sorry for sounding like a newbie, but well.. I am.
The fact that I am barely awake isn't helping either.

That's the cd-rom drive your looking at, but odds are you can at least connect it to transfer oversome of your vital documents.

Yeah, I noticed I was looking at the CD-Rom drive when I checked back this morning.
Never try doing this kind of stuff while tired..
The HDD is a Samsung SV3012H.
Would it work in the new PC?

And I can't reinstall EVERYTHING, unfortunately.
I no longer have the CD for some of the things I have installed.
I WILL have to copy some programs over, and a lot of text and image files.

I doubt, upon choosing the motherboard you may have to purchase an adapter as well. You may be able to get away with just installing it in the PC for storage but I wouldn't try to run the programs that are on it in a rig with a totally different motherboard and pretty much a totally different setup.

If you must have to do it then do it right and reinstall everything.

Benchmark Scores I dont have time for that.
I know it'd be cheaper to build it myself, but I've never done that before and I am terrified I'd screw something up.
I don't want to take that chance.

Yes yes, I've heard all the "It's like legos!", "Even a baby could do it!", etc.

well 99% of the ppl here have built their own shit jump on someone elses comp and we can run you through it step by step if you want no one here would have a prob w/ that.

Within the next few months I will be buying a new pre-built gaming PC, and would like everyones opinions on the one I've chosen.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227041

What I really want this PC to do is run older games perfectly, and it certainly looks like it could.

I've been stuck with a HP Pavilion 512w for years, and obviously I'm not able to play many games nor install very many new parts, and as such I don't know much about current video cards, processors and such.

So I'd like to ask if I could run the following games;
Black & White 2
Battlefield 2
Civilization 4
Empire Earth 2
Farcry
The Sims 2
Age of Empires 3

With all graphics settings at their maximum, at a constant 60fps+ on this computer.

Thanks in advance.

Good computer, it will probably be able to play new games at high settings for the next two years, all those old games you mentioned with play without any issue at full graphics and high resolution. Disappointingly the computer you quoted can be built for less than $600 if you know what your doing.

Hmm, years ago I had a HP Pavilion 6736 that I replaced with my current 512w, and I used a flash drive to remove some of the programs on it and transfer it to this PC.
They ran just fine, so I see no reason why I couldn't do the same here..

I only need to copy over two programs, a few text files, numerous image files, and the mods for the two games I have installed.
The programs are Paintshop Pro 8, and Photoshop CS.
I could use my flash drive to transfer everything if I can't get the old hard drive to work in the new PC.
Everything I couldn't transfer I could easily find and reinstall on the new computer.

As for the RAM.. Both have great reviews. I'll have to decide on that later.

Darren, I've decided to build my own PC instead of buy that pre-built.
But it isn't going to come to $600. All total, it looks like it'd be $1186.33.
I'll have nearly $200 left with which to buy the games.

A bit expensive for a custom built computer I might say...I could build for cheaper, but then again I'm good at budgeting. Either way you will have a good system, 8800GT is a monster.
