Hands down the 1060 as its the same price pretty much as the 480 here.

Interesting that a lot of comments for the 1060 got it because it was the same price there. If it was priced lower there, the 480 would likely be voted more

And yet the poll shows a wide lead for the 480. So it must mean in more locations than not that it is the cheaper one.

this is what it boils down to again we have AMD selling lemons and Calling it Lemonade

sure if I add water, ice and sugar and give it a good stir ill have some pretty good lemonade

OR I can just go buy some Lime-ade and drink it ...
bought a EVGA GTC 1060 SC ACX copper for 233 dollars shipped after rebates

AMD is selling promises
they promise better DX12
they promise vulkan will be a thing
the bottom line is they have very little control over either and even if it does happen in a year or two

then one of the following will happen
1. Nvidia releases a driver update with better async acceleration or finds some extra DX12 performance hidden in a dark corner of the ASIC, which is entirely possible and likely from what I have read

2. new cards come out rendering the rx480 pointless or amd offers anouther round of re-brands

the RX480 8GB AIBs need to come in at 250 dollars and not a cent more

i would go with the 1060 - faster card once you OC it. Seems to have a ton more headroom than the 480.

Custom 480. Why? Well...

Yep. These are all game titles with engines I consider to be the real deal - heavy tesselation, high amounts of textures with good detail levels, smart LOD, large numbers of assets, and engines that really push all the buttons on the GPU itself. I still consider CryEngine the only 'true' benchmark, because it still is miles ahead in actual graphical fidelity (which says little about whether a game gets better because of that fidelity, btw - I understand why games cut back on certain things even just from a creative design perspective) uses almost every post effect in the book and does it very well. GTA V is a great bench as well because this is one extremely optimised engine too and one that is highly customizable from a user's perspective and being very transparent about it. TW3 falls in the same category for me. All of these games I hold in high regard, and they put the Nvidia offers on painful display - these engines show that 'just clocks' don't really mean shit - they are also the engines where the low-bandwidth mid range of Nvidia falls short very quickly - even on 1080p.

I also found it peculiar at least, to see that the 1070/1080 are sometimes 100% equal in FPS at higher FPS at 1080p (and not cpu bound), with some exceptions where the 1070 was even faster than its more expensive brother. It makes me question the balancing act of Pascal, as much as I was questioning the balancing act of Maxwell. These high clocks come at a price and that price is being paid in silence - it is shown very well by the GTX 960 that falls off every chart these days and is even today still topped by its much better balanced GTX 770 of a gen earlier. It is also starting to show in the GTX 970 now and especially in SLI. Maxwell doesn't age well when it gets bandwidth limited - while the GTX 980ti with sufficient bandwidth still goes very strong.

My vote this round is definitely going to RX 480 for mid range, but while AMD's GCN currently scales very consistently between 'old' API game titles (and underperforms in the perf/watt just like old GCN did), it also shows great promise for the newer API's where it surpasses both the perf/clock and perf/watt of Pascal. It's a shame AMD can't show that off too well yet - which happens all too often when they push something new.

Hey, at least the colours assigned to each card remains consistent.... oh wait. :wtf:

The choice is really if one would buy 480 or if it's not enough then 1070. 1060? just no.
Also I fail to see any HDR displays on the market yet... so can't decide if I wanna jump G-sync or FreeSync boat just yet.

I'm starting to wonder if the 4GB version are really going to be realeased worldwide. So far it seems that only a very few americans got them. It's listed on xfx and sapphire website, they appears on some americain website (sold out though). But the 8gb seems to get the favor: you won't find a single 4gb in europe.
Apparently there aren't any 4Gb memory chips. That's why the reference 480 4GB came with 8GB of RAM on them. We'll have to see what happens because of that.

A lot of places claim "sold out" when they never had them in stock in the first place.
Do you have any source for this with OCUK? It sounds like FUD to me.

wow! i didnt expect the 480 to be the majority!
Maybe that's because of the vocal minority? People could be getting tired of buying cards with a shorter shelf life.

Both the 1060 and 480 are too slow. I bought a 1080 for home and a 1070 for work.

My old GPU died at the end of the year (Gigabyte GTX560Ti OC 1GB...at that point I had to buy a mid/high end one and decided to get an Asus Strix GTX970 OC. It works good, it is silent and here in plain summer by playing for 4 to 5 hours straight it doesn't get past 71ºC. So no need to upgrade for me since I play at 1920x1080p at the moment. Price of the card was 369€ here at Spain.

Now if I had to buy a new one (I voted "Not upgrading this round") I basically won't go for neither of these. Not just because of the performance (both are on par and slightly above the 970 now, and power consumption is lower as well...but I don't care about that at all), but because of the price point.

Here at Spain just last year a mid end GPU was around 200-220€ (GTX960 or R9 380X), mid/high end around 300-380€ (GTX970, R9 390/X), and finally high end around 500 up to 650€ (GTX980/Ti, Fury/X)...

BUT NOW a mid end card like the GTX1060 costs 370€ (same as a mid/high end last year), the RX480 is still on point with a price of 250€ (120€ difference in price...if I had to buy one I'll go for the RX480 without a doubt having this in mind).

Then mid/high end 499/550€ (GTX1070) and high end 755€ (GTX1080).

They are literally rap*ng us here with the prices. I understand that the old gen is still on stores (they have stock) and they want to sell them, but it seems that they are charging prices because of how the GPU's are performing compared to the old ones. Like they are justifying the increases in prices compared to the last year...yet the products shouldn't be that much expensive because they are meant to be substitutes of the past gen. No more no less.

And that is pis*ing me off and if I had to upgrade now...I would probably have to go for mid end GPU's "only" because of the prices. So no...skipping this gen all alone.

I care for my money, call me cheap bast*rd or whatever...but this increase in prices is not right at all.

Yup, same reason I'm waiting.

There is not a snowball's chance in hell I'm paying over 420-430 euros for a 1070 when there is a 980ti available at that price offering similar performance. And these prices *will* drop eventually, so I'm not even worried about all of this. I suppose the yields on 14/16nm aren't that good yet, so give it time. Nvidia and partners need to get their heads right, and not buying into this craziness is the best way to make that happen.

To be fair, I'm waiting for the lower end (460, 1050). My 1440x900 panel doesn't need 6 or 8GB of VRAM.
