AMD showed that the Ryzen 3900x is capable of top-quality streaming + gaming on the same machine.
But I would like to know wich 3xxx CPU gives me the highest framerates while streaming. And only a streaming benchmark could make it a clear choise for me.
I'm sure many other streamers do not want to continue with dual-desktop setups for high-quality streaming.

I'd worry about choice and which before worrying about a streaming benchmark. :p

Jokes aside, only if this is done right would it be worth it. It needs to somehow be empirical and repeatable benchmark. So stay away from MP games. I'm sure that you'll find, depending on the title, scaling with cores will stop somewhere around the 8c/16t range.

I prefer TPU have an active Youtube channel with weekly news and hardware reviews, so instead of reading through press release on homepage I can just watch it on Youtube

One more thing I just thought of.... instead of (what amounts to) burying this in a CPU review, just make a single article covering a bunch of CPUs. Then maybe revisit it if needed in a year or two... a slow 'evergreen' article.

More hits this way too I'd imagine... the Ryzen article and this one for streaming.

I think it is an invalid question and poll because it is clearly biased. If benchmarks are to be performed and results posted, it should be on all reviewed processors, not just one family line from one maker.

Off course. A question can never be invalid though, only an answer can...

Yes, off course but you are the OP replying to my comment so I will respond.

Off course and, of course, not true.

Questions certainly can be invalid - as can answers.

For example, if you asked, "Why is the United States flag affectionately called "The Union Jack?". That is an invalid question because, of course, it is not. It is called "The Stars and Stripes". The Union Jack is the national flag of the United Kingdom.

But I'll concede, in this case, your question, as questions go, was valid though technically incomplete and therefore, not very helpful for the reasons I gave. Thus the poll still is not either for the reasons I gave. That is, benchmarks for one product are useless if there are no benchmarks for competing products to compare with.

That all depends on what your goal is as a reader. If you've already homed in on Ryzen 3xxx and are interested in how it does this specific task, its nice. In that sense you cannot dismiss the recent developments regarding Intel CPUs. They're not exactly the safest investment at this time.

I don't think its a secret there is a strong AMD bias here. That doesn't have to be a bad thing. It just is what it is.

If I apply this to my personal situation, even as owner of a 8700K, I am seriously looking at this iteration of Ryzen and maybe selling off the Intel rig. If it performs @ high refresh, I might just about break even as well and it'd be a great move. Upgradability, an actually safely usable SMT, and far less heat. This 8700K is jumpy as hell and summer is not its best friend. Last year I bluescreened on 100C, go figure.

Nice, how?

If you have nothing to compare the score to, how is it nice?

If I tell you the Honda Civic scored 23 in the Whosie-Whatsit benchmark, but I don't tell you how the Toyota Corolla scored, of what value to you is that 23 for the Civic?

Remember, this is about TPU reviews. "As a reader", when I read reviews, I want to know how a product stacks up to the competition. If I already homed in on the new Dyson floor vacuum, what good is knowing it scored 87 on the Consumer Reports review if I can't see how well any of the other vacuums did? For all I know there may be 6 other vacuums that, if reviewed too, would have scored higher but cost less!

Scores only mean something if you know how other products in that category scored.

True, in part, but sometimes reviews are also used to shine light on a new feature or specific perk of a product, something it might have over competitors. An example is RTX. Was the DXR testing and the feature articles (a review of performance!) useless because we had only Nvidia cards - and for quite a while, even only BF V to look at? Is DLSS testing useless because its limited to, again, Nvidia cards and even specific resolutions and games?

Similarly, encoding/decoding is another such thing CPUs do well but when it was a novelty, you can rest assured there were one-sided feature articles within reviews or separate with one-sided results. And even more similar to this Ryzen situation is a wild claim of the manufacturer - its only nice if a review puts that claim to the test, and no, that does not require a broad test over several brands.

Besides, its in addition to, not mutually exclusive to normal tests.

I agree and that's great. But now you are changing the parameters of the discussion as new or specific features was not the point of the OP's question or poll. Talking about new features or specific perks has nothing to do with comparing performance - or comparing scores when there are no other scores to compare with.

Just saying its pretty gray, I gave some other examples in later edits you may have missed, that get a bit closer to what is being asked here. Still is a stretch though I agree.

And I appreciate that. And I totally understand and appreciate your examples. I am just saying reviews have to assume readers don't have memorized the benchmark scores for all the competing products. I'm all for posting benchmark scores. But for reviews to be valid and of value when comparing products, all of the products need to be tested using the same testing parameters, protocols, and scoring methods.

Respectfully, but DUH? Any reputable review site does that with a proper review of a product... ones that don't are a minority. That said sometimes it just isn't possible to do it so the data has to stand independently until a comparison is possible.

I'm indifferent as the benching is kinda boring, but I have seen a few other live reviews where interaction between us the peons and 2 or more people would work and answer questions, discuss ideas presented in chat and that was kinda nice. It may liven up the review process, and it also gives a glimpse into the review process and still provides the data that matters.

For multi-use systems (Gaming + > 30% workstation) I would like to see:

- Less synthetics
- Less things that one only does once (install a program)
- Less things that are silly (A script of office suite tasks that show no real difference and normally require user input between each step.

Things that are important for muti-use systems ....

- Gaming
- Gaming + Streaming
- Adobe Premiere
- AutoCAD
- Rendering

And one thing I would love to see is a small cross section of games whereby it is tested with ...

X cores
X-1 cores
X-2 cores and so on to see at which point the cores matter / don't matter

But this might be better as a separate article at a specific price point ... three tables say 9900k's with 1 - 8 cores oin 3 games versus vs 2920x's 12 cores over 3 games. O course, I redisposed to any conclusion, one could choose the games that favor one way or the other.

I agree with all you said but not sure "less synthetics" is possible in any test environment. All benchmark programs are synthetic. Yes, you could test rendering images, but those would be hand-picked images in a controlled environment. Would they truly represent real-world use? For some maybe.

Regardless which "tests" are performed, each test subject must be tested using the same tests under the same conditions - preferably in a "blind" setup too.
