Wow, i just OC'd my CPU.

Guys, after years of computer building i overclocked my first CPU.

My QX6700 is now running at 3.2Ghz and all i did was bump up the multi, i was so happy and surprised because supposedly my version of the 680i motherboards are incapable of overclocking quad cores so i was always scared to give it try. I decided to screw what they said after all these years and finally give it a try with my QX6700 and it booted into windows and i was so ecstatic. I still have yet to test it to see if its fully stable in game tho. But wow i just had a huge nerdgasm. :rockout:

Haha, I felt the same way too when I OC'd my first chip! You are damn lucky, its an extreme isn't it? unlocked multi.. that should've been a breeze! Aim higher now, it'll defo be fun, but beware, its like sex, once you pop, you can't stop! Mwahaha!

Congrats CD :toast:

My QX6700 was stable at 3.2GHz with just multi-bump.
Any higher and it was flakey without other tweaks.
They do run warm though. lol

Yep it's an extreme, all i had to do was up the multi.

Ya even at stock it was running pretty warm. So i definitely need to keep an eye on the temps.

It's on the stock fan, but i'm moving to an i7 rig soon(just need some more cash in hand to get the i7 CPU and RAM). So im not all to worried about this CPU's well being in terms of keeping it deeply cooled.

Congrats man, that chip should have some decent capabilities. I dunno much about the nv chipsets other than when I've tried to OC they've been a pain, but I've had a little luck with duals and 400FSB on an xfx 680i.

How did you go all this time without overclocking?! MAN! I remember in 1998 I set out specifically to get a Celeron 366, Abit BM6, bigass HSF unit and the tightest Crucial RAM so I could run at 550MHz and show all my friends how tits the Celery was and how easily I could pwn their puny $800 PIII 450s.

I had a 680i CDdude, and as I remember it all they really didnt take kindly to was FSB overclocking, the fact you have a QX should make it a breeze, with more votlage a few more multi bumps could be possible.

Most chips like yours are known to hit around 3.6, I'd be brave enough to try 1x more for 3.466 in your shoes

I bought a ZeroTherm Nirvana NV120 for my QX6700 and it cooled better than my orignial Scythe Mine (which was quite decent). The Nirvana is now happily cooling my QX9650.

Dandy little cooler, if I must say so myself.
