i want to buy an 2nd video card for SLi but for some reason my almost year and a half old card that i bought for $459.99 is the same price... :wtf:

because the cards were discontinued, only places with high prices still have stock.

This is why people always recommend against the 'buy one now, buy one later' approach.

I never really intended on using SLi the idea is nice but wasn't cost effective at the time and it's not now either...

Oh well I'll just save up for a 9900 in July.

SLI is only worth it if you get both cards at the same time, and even then i'd prefer buying one fast card.

Especially if you sell the old one off first, you'll get the new one a lot cheaper.

eh it not the same card, im sure a bios flash could fix and compatibility problems with the heatsinks look very different.

Fix it with a BIOS flash. Apart from the cover/outer shell, there's nothing different between the AR's heatsink and the NVidia reference cooler.

Sorry guys but just an FYI, the SSC version has 112SPs vs 96 in his KOs(his is the older version read 827 in the model number) so a Bios flash won't work. If you had the newer KO with 828 in the model number(also 112SPs) it should be possible but not in this case.

Even then SLI (and Crossfire) are mostly a waste of cash. It's just good for benchmarks. The only valid reason you'd have an SLI setup would be for extremely high resolutions.

Hey I don't mean to spam but my for sale thread has two 9600gt's plus a drive bay PSU all together for $230 and you could just sell your 640mb 8800gts on ebay.

The 9600gt's in SLI are almost the exact same as 8800gt's in SLI because of how good they scale.

shouldnt his GTS work with another GTS even with the pipeline difference, merely that the new card would lower down the same pipelines as his?
