Well not over clocked I was playing cs:source this morning max settings and about 30 minutes later my video started artifacting fairly bad. So I popped open ati tool to see my card around 80c.... Not going to work, pulled the side off my case to check everything by eye and feel chipset heatshink was a little warm to the touch also. But I figure thats nothing a light 25mm fan can't fix..

As for the video card, I dropped a 60mm fan on the side duct and put it back in my case for now, seems to be helping a bit for now at least. But I think I would much rather just replace the heatsink and fan on my video card. Any suggestions, personal experience? I have never swapped cooling on a video card before so I'm not sure what to expect.

Just gotta hold out until I can get my x1950..... Heck I pulled the 60mm fan out of a dead power supply so I could get the extra cooling.....

Ok, is your card one of those low profile cards for tiny cases or normal size?

Its the Sapphire x1300xt it has the fan also.... Now with the artifact scanner running after this fan I'm not getting it above 70c yet core temp.... But I really would like to see it back around 50c if possible..

Or am I worrying about nothing really?

SO you basically have the same card I have:D (My X1600Pro which is now the X1300XT)
It is the aluminium heat sink with the tiny white fan right?
I don't have any problem with that heat sink actually.

But try to take off the cooler and replace the crappy thermal paste with some good one. (AS5 will be great)

The card usually run at around 65C full load and around 45C idle at stock fan speed.

Okay so the 65c really isn't as bad as I am thinking here then... Alright I'll order a few tubes of AS5 then and see how that helps.

I just have this issue where I want my system to run about ambient temperature all the time even under full load. As it sits under full load for a constant 5 hours, my proc never gets over 49c at idle it runs about 28-29c.

Is it the X1300XT OC version? (Standard clock should be 500Mhz/400Mhz DDR2 800)
The card will be fine as long as it stays below 70C full load, can't expect that much from a cheap stock cooler.

No kinda wish it was... But from the looks of it I'll have my x1950 soon and if not I'll have at least a x1650xt.

Try to find a X1950GT it will kick ass any card at its price:D
Btw, try to stay away from the Asus X1650XT, the cooler is kinda noisy and it could make the mem overheat.

As for the x1650xt I was looking at getting another Sapphire.

As for the x1950 I was just going to pickup the Ati branded 1950pro.

vf900cu, its overpriced for what it is, but its the best cooling solution. in the meantime try remounting your stock cooler and lap its base if it needs it, also crank the fan to 100% for 3d mode and see how that aids temps.

Did that already... It's running a bit cooler, i also moved my sound card down another slot to give it a little more space. It's holding a pretty cool 50c now, and under full load for hours it wont cross 70c.

70c load is pretty good for a stock cooler, still too hot imo. especially for an x1300xt.

I was looking at a x1950pro...

Heh don't make me phase change... I'm a psychopath!

I already thought about doing liquid cooling, and running the radiator in the freezer box of my mini fridge in my office... That could get me below ambient temperature, little drilling work and some sealing.

Now here is a good question.... If heat raises... WHY do these people build video cards upside down..... lol

I honestly thought about that the first time it got hot, I was like erm if you put the card the other direction, hence I flipped my case upside down, it would naturally cool better... Besides the fact that if it was upside down my big 120mm fan would be right above the heatsink and fan of my vid card.
