I realize this is a silly question for those who might have the 3200 mobos but can you find out about this if you can take two x1900gt and crossfire them together. I could realy use the information. This stuff about master card and slave card is quiet anoying. I also heard about the specail non dongle configuration, I dont know much about that either. I realy want this information for my next upgrade. You can ignore my previous post about buying, but I realy want to get my brain on something useful.

If you get an X1900 CF Edition Card with an X1900GT, wouldn't the X1900CF Edition disable half it's memory and lower it's speeds?

Yes, half memory disabled. X1800GTO and below does not need the dongle. X1800XT on up needs the dongle, PERIOD.

What if you get 2 X1800GTO's, and flash em to XT, do you still need the dongle?

Now there is a good question. My guess, and it is only a guess, is that it would because the GTO PCB is designed for dongleless Crossfire, but the drivers may see XT's and not allow it.

Yeah that is a good question. I dont know anything about the x1900gt than what I still already know because the x1800xt is like that to the x1800gto, like x1900xt is to x1900gt. So possiblity that it can do just what x1800gto does is quiet possible, but doesnt solve the issue whether it does or doesn't, more or so points out the obivious of course they will only state the individual item in its entirety with another of massive price. But some of us people are pathetically cheap, so we cant burnden with buying something of an extreme price, best thought is to have someone with a crossfire board w/ a ati x1900gt and another x1000 series component that they previously bought for a new device.

To the consideration of the x1800gto to x1800xt, I more in dire wants for the new architecture provided only on the x1900 series products. Well knowing that the x1800xt will probly require it, maby an emulation program might be able to convince software else wise. Beats the hell out of me might take alittle more research.

The answer is NO, you can't have 2 X1900GT's in CrossFire mode. You have to get 1 X1900GT, and 1 X1900CFE to have CrossFire. The X1900GT is like a disabled X1900XT/X, but not many people have tried unlocking it. The X1800GTO is also like a disabled X1800XL/XT, but there's an onboard CrossFire chip, therefore, you can have CrossFire without the dongle. The X1900GT doesn't have that, since it's like the X1900XT/X, it needs a master card. Damn!! Read other member's posts like b1lk1!!!!! It clearly says on his link!!!! Or do your own research!!!!

thank you, I guess in my greatest opion is that I should just buy the x1900xtx to not get anoyed with it. Keep my old x1600pro use that as a secoundary card to plug other moniters in so I can watch my videos and play games at the same time.

but check this out:

"the new ATI driver which is soon to be unleashed will now enable software crossfire up to X1900GT. This means no more hassle in having to find a master card, or an external cable."

Don't you find it funny that this article is dated June 21st and noone has reported any success at all with this? Also, you need a RD580 based motherboard for anything over X1600 Crossfire with no dongle. And this seems to be the only article claiming anything over the X1800 GTO will do it without the dongle.

FACT: X1800 XT and above get yourself a mastercard or wait for R600.

well i think the driver will come.
because who will buy a mastercard thats 150$ more expensive than the XT (in norway atleast) only to have it disable 256mb of ram, 4 pipelines and a little underclock, just to meet the specifications of the GT,
Also, if the X1900GT's get a cable-free/software crossfire driver I think alot more GT's would be sold as 2gt's would cost the same or less than the mastercard alone.

Besides, i thought that you only needed 2 pci-e 16X slots, not 16x crossfire (not sure on this one)

I'm not jumping to buy anything till my birthday anyways. By that time hopefully many of the parts on my dream machine will reduce thier prices. Many of the dream parts have already dropped. I going to be extremely happy if I can build it 300$ to 400$ less then the expected by if so I'll buy more ram and stuff for the machine. Oct 27 is when I'm going to really start looking some more, but I'll keep my eye out. I'm thinking x1900xt might try some other parts aswell. I will never go toward a NVIDIA because they suck just to beat the x1900xtx they had to dual core a video card, Imagine AMD's technology in the use of ATI.
