well i've never managed to get succesful SLI or crossfire. the universe is against me. (PCI-E slots refusing to work, driver problems, sudden video card fan failures... etc)

After using 2x 3870s and now 2x 4870s I have realized that Crossfire is really only good for benchmark scores :/

Back on topic....I think on the ati side a 4850 would be best to replace your x1950.

Thank you, but I just need a cheap card for now as I'm going to be building a whole new system with a 4870X2 and a E8400. ;)

well i think $89 (after rebate) is fairly cheap for the 3850

accelero S1 rev 2 fits from what i've heard, and its a monster of a cooler when you zip tie a 120mm fan to it.

Ok so I made the jump and bought a 3850 for 99$ new on newegg, what will it do OC wise? I havent OC'ed any of the 3800 series cards yet.

apparently they OC fairly well. I dont know any more than that, i beleive ATI tool for scanning and rivatuner for clocking is what people prefer.
