Which one is better? the 2600xts are a lot cheaper then the 1950's, but are they better? heatwise they are right? cause hte 2600s are 65nm? but im not too worried about the heat, nothing an aftermarket cooler cant fix, but i want fps and performance, not really into dx10(.1) so i dont really mind dx9, what do you guys say is better for overall performance?

The 2600XT would be a slight improvement in some games from your X1950 Pro, but the XT would be better than both.
Frankly, I'd rather keep the Pro until I could afford a 2900 series card. They'll offer better performance than the X1950s and the HD2600 XT.

What do you play, resolution?

Low res, my 2600xt gddr is faster than my old 1950pro even slightly, plus it draws no power and runs cool and quiet.

1950xt is faster than both but a lot more heat and noise... Ups-Downs...

I like the 2600xt gddr4, but if you don't need/want it right now waiting for the 2650xt would be a good idea, should cost around $200 and is rumored to be 256bit mem bus then it would SMOKE a 1950pro.

well i dont want to get a hd2900, need a mid range card like the 1950 or the 2600, btw i'm not upgrading, my friend might build his first comp and he asked me to help him pick parts, and so here i am. the 2600 is a lot cheaper then the 1950 and a lot of people suggest 2600s now a days and not 1950s so thats why i was wondering. any card between the 2600 and the 2900?

His specs state 15" Sony LCD, so I'm guessing 1024x768, so nothing very high.
The GPU will be bottlenecked by the CPU at low res, so it's likely not worth moving to a better GPU without a larger screen. The performance difference will probably not be felt, like I said, bottlenecking.

EDIT: I was a little bit slow at posting, heheh.
Well, in that case, the HD 2600 XT might be a better buy. Lets you save a little money on the PSU by needing a lower powered one, and still has decent enough performance. Money saved can go into a higher end CPU, for example.

I was just going to let you refresh, but I just gotta say, I edited my post afterward, I tend to take a little longer to post, heheh.
It's now edited to be more relevant.

Get the 2600xt

In one of my machines-
e6750 @ 3400
2 gb ram
2600xt gddr4

Rainbow 6 Vegas max settings 70 fps
CS:S max settings 100 fps
3dmark06 5400ish

Card is still at stock clocks, they really fly and are "still" getting better. Also runs cold, doesn't use any power, price is great, and its quiet.

well for my friends rig i'm thinking of a q6600 g0 with a gigabyte p35 dual pcie slots, one for the card, one for sata raid card 2x 250g. p35 not really good for multi card so no plans for that. shouldn't have any bottlnecking problems. probably going to get a ~600-700w psu to power it all. possibily watercooling if we have budget left lmao. hes doesn't really play many gpu intensive games like oblivion, fear, half life, cyrsis, etc. hes more like world of warcraft, first person shooter etc. so mid range should be good.

x1950xt will preform better in dx9. But 2600 is faster. Really depends....can your friend use the extra graphics processing power?

hmm 1950xt.... better in dx10???

:slap:

Guess its a typo, the 2600xt is almost as fast in dx9 now and is still getting faster, imo its not worth the power requirement, price, or noise for the 1950xt anymore.

well like i said he doesn't do very gpu intensive stuff. something similair to a 1950pro will go a good job for his games. and as far as i know its single monitor with say a midrange resolution. other then halo, hes not interested in dx10, and i think hes using halo and stuff on xbox so..

So 2600xt... It will do dx10 but it doesn't have to...

It has about the same dx9 power as a 1950pro some cases less, some more, draws near no power, price is cheap... Very incredible card for the price!

I have been putting 2600xt's in all my new mainstream computer systems, the cards will take on any game, and play them very well at high settings in lower resolutions.

Put it this way they are good enough to the point I am considering replacing my 1950xt's with a set of 2600xt's..

well we've got some time before we build it (budget not yet fully funded) so.. but untill then, what would you say for today? like if i had to order today. im glad to hear that the 2600xt doesn't use much power and runs cool, but what other good stuff does it have against the 1950pro?

http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=858&model2=725&chart=318

this concerns me,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...yCodeValue=679:24896,679:29475&page=2&bop=And
only about a 3 buck difference, but the tests done by toms hardware really show that the 1950pro kicks ass, im not too worried about the heat, i heard that the x1k series have really badly lapped hsfs and lapping those will drastically reduce the heat, not that i'm worried, i personally own the x1950 pro and it runs great through oblivion so...

pretty even performance between the 2600XT and X1950PRO but the 2600 does DX10 while the X1950 does not

wait for the 2900pro better or you could wait for the hd 2950pro's to come about dependson if your in a rush to get anything soon but the x1950 will be the 2600xt most dx9 cases but its better to be going forward so id wait for the 2900pro

well my problem now is that they're the same price, but x1950pro outperforms on dx9 but a long shot and has 256 bit memory while the 2600 has 128 bit memory, which is not very good, while the less power and stuff is great, the 2600 is losing atm since im not interested in dx10

Are you all crazy? The X1950XT would destroy the HD 2600XT. Even at 1024x768, turn AA on and the 2600XT takes a nose dive.

Maybe yours does... Lol I run all my games maxed out on my 2600xt gddr4 256mb and it doesn't drop it much at all.... Vert Sync drops it hard, but thats pretty useless...

2600xt gddr4 > 1950pro *just because of power draw, cost, and its dx10 for the future.
2600xt gddr4 < 1950xt

256bit over 128bit wont help enough to count at low resolutions. Trust me I have had all 3 cards.

Trust me, you dont play the games im playing maxed out.

Good luck maxing out MOH: Airborne at 1280x1024 without seeing your framerate regularly fall below 30fps. I admit this will run at 1024*768 ok, but it doesnt have AA yet.

Bioshock will kill the card at max settings at 1024*768. In this games you cant even enable AA yet.

World in Conflict destroyed my card at high settings and AA, 9fps average on their benchmark. Thats not even the highest setting.

DiRT becomes crap as soon as you enable AA even at 1024*768.

Oblivion at max with AA lol, good luck with that.

STALKER with dynamic lighting and AA at max settings cripples the 2600xt.

My theory is that youre playing pretty old games compared to the ones i've just listed.

Af for you actually believe that the 2600xt is better than an x1950xt, youre definitely having a laugh.

You also say dx 10 for the future yet, it sucks at them at the moment.

edit: whoops you admit that the 2600xt is worse than a x1950xt. I would argue that the x1950pro is better because of the hit the 2600xt takes as soon as you enable AA.

Get the 2600xt

In one of my machines-
e6750 @ 3400
2 gb ram
2600xt gddr4

Rainbow 6 Vegas max settings 70 fps
CS:S max settings 100 fps
3dmark06 5400ish

Card is still at stock clocks, they really fly and are "still" getting better. Also runs cold, doesn't use any power, price is great, and its quiet.

Lol so its better than a 8800gts at 1024*768
