X79 sabertooth with long cold boot and NIC problem ...

Hello everyone , I have x79 sabertooth mobo and I don't remember having any problem the last time I used it ( 6 months ago) I have dual system each on different SSD one old win10 and one just installed , the problem(s) on both systems now are:

long cold boot (specifically windows 10 loading rotating dots ).
In device manager Intel NIC have a yellow triangle with code 10
In device manager intel management engine interface have a yellow triangle with(STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE)

I tried drivers on ASUS web page , or updating drivers from device manager , clean windows install , turn-off fast boot within windows ,reflashing bios with latest from asus although it's very old .

all of these problems disappear if I give the PC a normal restart !! and always come back at a cold boot, so anyone have such problems or know what could be the cause ?

I also noticed that there is No LAN light after every cold boot until I restart the PC ( could it be a HW problem ?)

Could be a RAM speed training issue? Cold boots are normally when that happens, first up.

The LAN light is odd, I know they usually blink off then back on as the drivers initialize, but no light at all? Does traffic flow over the lan link even though the lights are off?

Edit- reading on phone I missed the yellow triangle bit, sorry... try remove the device and drivers from device manager, then restart and let windows reinstall it. I see you tried newer drivers and a fresh windows install, so I don’t know if that will help... If it doesn’t, there’s a decent chance there’s damage to this board like lightning or power surge of some kind.

LAN have red light (slow blinking) but not green , while after restart during the booting/post there is green light , I'll try add-on NIC card and see but then there is still the Intel Management Engine issue.

I've seen that on boards that have been hit by lightning on the LAN port, it's usually dead in that case and means you'll need a new NIC. Sounds like this board isn't healthy, at least in my opinion, which is a shame because thats a decent board. I would buy a new NIC and disable the onboard one in the BIOS. That may help with boot times from cold, if the LAN port is being polled and slowing things down.

Sadly I just disabled the onboard LAN and tried a cold boot and it is still slow boot,, the weird thing is everything is working normally after a restart !!

Does the LAN even work 100% after a restart?

Yes 100% , tested all the day normal web-browsing/videos , online gaming ( normal ping and no packet loss ) , downloading ...

Well that’s interesting. This is something I’ve certainly never experienced. Have you switched off all the LAN boot rom options in the bios?

I found something interesting : if I restart the PC during the post/booting with ctrl+alt+del , the pc boot normally , fast and all devices are working normally , now it's clearly not about windows or drivers at all ...... I'll replace the CMOS battery with new one and see although I doubt it's as simple as this .

I suffer from a similar issue but with me it's the occasional long boot up and permanent complete loss of my USB 3 ports at the the back.

I think it's the board showing its age sadly and needs to be replaced. I've had some odd sata issues is well as sudden loss of power for no reason during gaming. It's only happened the once but my PSU is less than a year old.

Beast system and it's way too early to let it go to the abyss of darkness , I wish they still make x79 motherboards.

It could be the south bridge. Check temps, usually something must be hot... check the IC's.

Chinese are making these boars still thou... albeit still expensive.

you can still buy new X79 boards on ebay, but they are the lowest grade of 'new' motherboard you can get mainly made for OEMs -- ebay search 'BLACK SERIES X79R-AX DELUXE' Its made by ECS and there is nothing 'deluxe' about it and there are lots of them

I fixed it : reflashed the bios with one step older version using "flash back" method not the in-bios utility , IME portion in the bios was corrupted and got restored by a reflash and IME did affect intel Gb LAN and now all is working perfectly , thanks all for the help.

Im here wondering how long that 'fix' will last. Is it a bios issue or are the caps and resistors on the board really on their way out?

Im afraid that if i do flash my bios with the lastest one for my board that I wont see my OC again as previous bios updates saw that happen. Id honestly rather leave it as is as my system has no problems running at its current configuration apart from my USB issue.

Yeah sometimes the latest isn't the best. Im fortunate bios 2901 for my board has no affect on oc capability.

came home from work and booted up. PC took long to boot this evening and lost power twice within 5mins of one another.. Once when booting up and once when in windows with chrome open...

I hate to say it but I think at this stage its probably best i take out a small loan and just jump to an 8600k so I have some way of backing and syncing up all my data before leaving the platform. I dont want to leave it till my system no longer boots or runs properly and kick myself over not doing it sooner.
