the only experience i have with it is on my og xbox that i modded. But im building a media center pc. I had a few questions. and they are easily the most important.

1. does xbmc have the ability to play bluray?
2. can you install xbmc (like on the og xbox) as a standalone OS on a HTPC?

do i need to use it as a "player"? i want to keep expense and overhead/powerconsumtion down. so id rather not run it ontop of an os. but if i have to i suppose i could just ramp up the components.

xbmc for linux can run in standalone mode but cannot play netflix because of the lack of silverlight support. yes you can play bluray.

and that only works with windows as the OS. really wish linux and netflix could come to some sort of agreement over DRM.

meh moonlight is working on breaking though the drm but its a long way off
personally I just torrent everything .... :rockout:

lol, well yea that is certainly one solution.

does it require any configuration? i did some quick reading and apparently you have to download a seperate plugin? and apt-get some stuff?

xbmc comes with some prebuilt in plugins. if you are running it on a windows box i dont think you can run standalone mode.

thats what i wanted to do. run just xbmc. no underlying os

well you have to run an OS, but only linux allows you to run xbmc in standalone mode.

load into the livecd and configure some options. make sure you are getting your desired audio/video playback. then install it.
