Xeon or the i5

So I finally got my bios chip from EVGA and got my xeon e5-2630 sandy system up and running.

Now here is the delimma. A friend gave me his old Asus z87 sabertooth along with an i5 4690. So now I don't know what to use lol any advice?

What will you be using it for? If gaming, and with plans to upgrade, go with the i5. The Xeon, while not a bad system at all, is getting a bit old.

Gaming, some video editing, and maybe a little bit of streaming. If I can lol

For gaming, the i5 will be faster. I don't know if you can overclock the e5, but it's low clock speeds will really hurt game performance.

Here is the thing....I5 4690 has GREAT single core performance and its nice for gaming atm but the problem is that have "only"4 cores and no ht so if you want to do editing or gaming &streaming it ain´t that good choice,from other side your Xeon 2630 with 6c/12t don´t have that problem and its good for editing&multitasking but his single core performance is not that good and I am afraid that it´s not possible to OC......it´s depend also of your GPU if it´s low-mid range then you can use Xeon and get the max from that card if its something better(RX470,GTX970 and stronger)then this Xeon will bottleneck that GPU.....

Don't think I'm going to be streaming at all. Just cause the performance hit I might hit cause intel bug issue so probably just gaming mostly and some light video editing. So probably going to go the i5.

I've used both (xeon e3 8thread & i5 4690k) for gaming ,streaming editing etc. they both have their ups and downs, in the end they tend to even out fairly well ,so you can't really go wrong with either. If it was me I probably keep the newer of the two and sell the other to upgrade the system you kept

yeah im going to the i5, until i build my new system February or March

I think this performance hit thing is being blown out of proportion. It's not going to ruin performance for stuff like this. Maybe if you're in charge of a big server farm, then you'll have to think about it. You're not gonna drop from 100fps to 70fps all of a sudden.

Zeon's have lower speed but more cores, cost less(usually), so they usually perform tasks better, some are locked some are not. Where as the i5 isn't locked

The i5 is locked, both cpu's are locked.

Either way I think your best bet is to use the i5. It's faster clock per clock, and you'll want the higher per core performance with the i5 for gaming. The Xeon might marginally beat out the i5 in video editing due to having more cores and HT, but that low clock speed is gonna hurt when you need high per core performance (games).
