Hi , wondering if anyone here can help , i have an XFX 7950 (FX-795A-TD FX-795ATDJ V5.0 DD RADEON 7950 925M BOOST READY 3GB D5)
The problem i am having is the fans not spinning , i can only get them to spin if i set them to 85% in MSI AB (at which point i can lower them to 81% , any lower and they stop) .
I have tried custom fan profiles to no avail , card has been repasted and air dusted
Bios is 015.024.000.001.000000
Board ID is 113-795ATDLTNLV13_120419SZA

So you need more power than design to get the fan to run. That tells me that it worn down in the bearings. How does the fans fell when you try to turn them manually? Wobbly and tight I would assume. You could try to lubricate one of them and see how that plays out or just get some replacements. A 7950 is not a new GPU.

Thank you for the fast reply ! , the fans appear to spin fine if i try to spin them by hand (a little flick and they spin 3 to 4 seconds ) so i dont think they are the problem .
Any ideas as to what lubricant to use ? an oil or a grease ?
I have also noticed a clicking sound as the start to spin when forced in AB but they are not catching on anything

When a bearing is worn down that much. Lubricating it will do very little. Your best bet is to buy replacement fans off ebay like these

Or replace the cooler entirely with an aftermarket solution from Arctic Cooling like an Accelero Xtreme III which is the more costly option.

other alternative option would be hunting on ebay for dead 7950 cards for their fans or fan/heatsink assembly's

By the time it comes to putting money down for a replacement cooler - youre better off putting that money towards a better second hand card.

Hello
I would look on ebay for a video card sold for parts.
That would be the best version and the cheapest.

Thanks for the replies , i will try removing the shroud/fan assembly and replace with one from my 7970 (that should give me a better indication if the fans are indeed in need of replacement)

If you've registered that GPU with XFX they'll send you another fan for free. They're great about that if you did the registration.

You can throw the fan’s model number in to aliexpress and should be able to find a replacement.
