Win Xp is recommended . The only problem is that some games only run on Win 7/Vista .

I've used XP black edition, back in the day when it was first created it was exceedingly useful for those junky netbooks when they first came out with 8gb hard drives and a single core made of cardboard. Black Edition is a bit of a hinderance, as you lose a hell of a lot of features. While it's lightweight and will free up a lot of system resources, I would stick with XP Pro, as you might want some of those features. 7 is out of the question if you want to play games as well.

Black edition isnt modded, its more like a gimped version of XP. Like windows 7 is to Vista. They tore out its insides.

"XP black" is illegal software choc full of malware, so the obvious choice is to not use it. Ever. You may as well get a retail licence (not oem) for Windows 7, then when you get your new computer you can remove it from the old one and put it on your new one.

Not to be a jerk but anyone recommending XP is crackers. Microsoft is ending support next April so security updates will NOT be available. Win7 works fine and you will enjoy it plus driver support will not be there.
