When it comes to software, IMO it's best to have the latest unless there's a good particular reason not to. For example, I felt there were good reasons (hardware requirements, DRM), etc. not to upgrade to Vista, and am relieved 7 has remedied the major sources of Vista complaints, because on a personal level, I'm able to have an up to date OS rather than one that holds me back with limitations like DX9 (DX10 hacks aside), and on a larger scale: when 70% of the world's computers are running an eight-year-old OS, progress is going to be held back a bit. 7 is bringing "current" software to computers faster than Vista ever did. The number of XP users has been decreasing three times faster since 7 was released than it did when Vista was released (including beta periods). Ultimately, I hope to see 7 become the dominant platform in just a couple years so developers will completely shift their focus and take advantage of all possibilities now available.

With respect to v2.0, I want to clarify that that is wrong. Don't want confusion/misinformation to spread. There is a "Run as administrator" option and there is compatibility troubleshooting, which the one time I had reason to use it, worked flawlessly. There is not a single game I haven't been able to get to work or that I have heard of not working in Windows 7.

Edit to add: I'm running 7 Ultimate x64 and am pleased with it. I had still been using XP and didn't expect 7 to be this good.

I have to say though, I have tried everything in W7 to get EA's Nascar Sim to run, and it will not! It will load, and then crash back to the desktop, every time. Of course it really isn't a fault of W7, its the fricking EA's POS:laugh:

That's good to know. I'm going to check whether there's already a thread around here listing software people can't get to run on 7, and if not, start one. Maybe we can find a fix for you.

Its funny, I checked the Windows 7 compatibility whatzit, and sure enough, it shows EA's NASCAR Sim, and NASCAR 2004 as both not able to be run on W7. And of course, EA has not put out any kind of update or patch..........Imagine that:banghead: God I hate EA Games!!!!
The bad thing about it, EA hired a bunch of the coders from Papyrus, so the games are pretty much Papyrus codes LOLOL

WMP12 is about the only thing I don't much care for, agreed the layout isn't good (WMP10 or 11 worked better IMO).

...and WMP9 worked best! For years and years people refused to migrate to 10. Ah, nostalgy..

Hi guys, I'm currently in debate whether to upgrade to win7 or stay with xp. I'm wondering if game performance is less/ more in win7 as it uses more ram, though I want dx10/11 as new games such as Just Cause 2 have dumped dx9. Also would I get 32 bit/64 bit, whats the difference between 32bit and 64bit and should 4gb of ddr2 ram @800mhz be fine or should I get 6GB just incase. Thanks guys, all answers appreciated.

This is an easy one. Windows 7 64Bit Edition is the bollox! :rockout: Ive been using it since release and I havent encounted a single problem.

4Gb of RAM is plenty enough also ;)

Not wanting to upgrade to newer software doesn't make one a techno-Luddite if there truly are issues with the newer versions.

Yep, does the word 'Vista' ring any bells :D

All of these function perfectly for me on four separate machines at the moment, all running 7 Ultimate x64 (laptop, one AMD, two Intel). Tested with F@H and all cores 100% loaded. Also tried with Prime loading cores on the Intel and one AMD machine (happened to have it on them). I really have no idea what's going on for you.

Same here, with the exception of the WMP complaint(which I have to agree WMP12 is junk), I haven't experienced any of these issues. And my machines are folding pretty much constantly.

The issue with WMP is likely the same issue that happens with toolbars created on the taskbar. When you first click on it, the icons have to be loaded before it is usable. With WMP, the song info for the list(or at least the part of the list visable in the list view) has to be loaded. I seem to remember WMP11 doing similar, but it would at least start to play the media after loading a few and then load the rest while it was playing, I think WMP waits for them all to load.

Yep, does the word 'Vista' ring any bells :D

Vista isn't bad, and actually I think a lot of people would be surprised how close it is to Win7.

I never came across any problems with 10 and 11 though, they worked great and the interface was more pleasant than the older ones.

Indeed, at least since the service packs, though not necessarily so much at launch. A lot of people just jumped on the Vista-hating bandwagon (including myself at first, to be honest).

Correct, it has matured, thats why I said "isn't" instead of "wasn't".

At launch it was far from good, for a lot of reasont that were not Microsoft's or Vista's fault, though also for a lot of reasons that were...
