Hey guys

Time to upgrade my Graphics Card and it’s my birthday!

I’ve been reading 1000’s of reviews, stats etc and managed to narrow it down to 3 choices.

1. Buy this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/164648 Asus HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 Top Edition

2. Buy this http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?SAP-4850X2 Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850 X2 2048MB

3.Or buy this and CF my existing Sapphire 4850 Toxic http://www.ebuyer.com/product/146872

I run a 24” Samsung SyncMaster 245b @ 1920X1200. Mainly play EVE Online, Far Cry 2, F.E.A.R 2 and recent FPS

I’ve learnt that the 4850X2 may have problems running some game on 2 GPU or is this just when it came out? And generally may be a problem. But it seems to be a very fast card.

The Asus HD 4890 seems nice to overclock and good speed.

Will a 2 card 4850 CF be better than a 4850X2?

Really I would like some input as to what the best will be.

My system spec on this forum is up-to-date.

Thanks for your help. :toast:

Thanks for the replies :toast:

From what I've seen the ATI cards I mentioned beat the Nvidia in that price range of £200 (max)

But if I'm wrong and there is a better Nvidia choise let me know.

Plus I will never be able to SLI it due to chipset.

I just sold my 4850X2, it's a very good card but single GPU stuff is better for games. If you can, get the 4890 or a GTX 275 if it's cheaper or at the same price.

I'm going to break from the norm, don't upgrade, stick that money in the bank till the end of the year and get a new Gen card when they come out. I can't imagine there is much the 4850x2 is struggling with as I have a 4870x2 and was thinking about going to a 4890 and I realized it was just a waste of time.

I reckon go 4850 toxic crossfire. Same performance in most games except for some oldies and WoW.

Unless you're really bothered to sell your 4850... it'll benefit your pocket more if you went crossfire and its still marginally better than a 4890 or gtx275.

EDIT: even trifire could be a choice.

4890 in Xfire or if you can, do trifire with 3 4850s (or even better 3 4890s!)

no need to xfire anything, you got a 24inch screen so a single 4890 1gb will play anything more than smooth at max settings and you will defenatly feel the performance increase. get the vapor x version next week.

You can crossfire them, but the 4890 will only use as much memory that the 4850 has, which I'm assuming, is 512mb which will limit performance quite a bit.

Ah i see

And from what I've learnt will be a massive limit.

Thanks

again, no need to crossfire for any game, the 4850 will slow down the 4890.

Get a single 4890, its $199 now on newegg, it will play all your games at max settings.... especially under 1920* resolutions
