This time it's Blender. As usual with these leaks, take it with a pinch of salt, but it's looking good.

There's a whole article on it here:

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Here, let me make this less click baitish and supply the meat upfront. ;)

The processor is listed as “AMD Engineering Sample” and is several positions above the Core i7 6900k – the octa-core processor the Summit Ridge variant was originally tested against. It manages the Blender run in 69 seconds – which is exactly the same performance as an Intel Xeon E5 2680 v2 processor. This is a chip that has 10 cores! It is marginally faster than the Xeon E5 2650 v2 – which is an 8 core processor. Both of these feature relatively low base clocks (as is usually the case with Xeon chips) of 2.8 Ghz and 2.6 Ghz respectively.

I bolded the important parts.

Now, extrapolate away to figure out performance, good people of TPU.

Does it mention how many cores this AMD processor has?

It's going to be like someone pissed in a lot of peoples cereal if it turns out to be some 32 core $5000 server grade enterprise chip..... but you never know the last 10 years may turn out to have been a fluke, and they'll hold the title for a while;).

Now that I think of it I can't even remember the last AMD chip I owned personally, Competition is a good thing. Personally I don't care what label is on my chip I just want it to be the best for the money

I sounds pretty clickbaitish to me. That said, it lacks the ads of most clickbait sites, so I'll remain neutral this time.

Interesting. The 8 core varient would be awesome.

And where is my goat now? :D

Core number is unknown and it was against a 10 core v2 (Ivy bridge) xeon. It was likely from one of their best ES chips.

I am getting a bad feeling about Zen now. It's looking bad.

Why do you think it's looking bad? This leak seems reasonably positive to me so I'm curious where you're coming from. Perhaps I missed something? :)

The worst case is that Zen's 32 core beating 10 core CPU from 2013.

If that's not bad, what is?
Yeah that would be bad, real bad, but I don't think we should jump to this conclusion yet. From the AMD demo video in the other thread (now closed) it looks like AMD now have reasonable IPC parity with Intel - and I'm taking into account the cherry picked scenario in that video too. Therefore, it's possible that this benchmark is running on an 8 or 16 core AMD CPU, we just don't know yet. 16-core of course would still be bad lol.

True.
But look at this way.

The best case is that 8 core Zen beating a 10 core CPU from 2013. It was a Xeon v2. The current is Xeon v5 and v6 will be out by time Zen is released.

Even the best case isn't looking too positive.

that was my feeling....not just AMD, but EVERY manufacturer does a standard list of things when advertising, or "leaking" (im not saying the source is or isnt legitimate), and among those things are....

putting theyre best product on display (a farmer never finds the tomato with holes and brown spots to put in front of his display)so im assuming this would be a "higher" performing offering.

matching to a lesser, or possibly older direct competitors "equal" product, to give the appearance of theyre item being superior.

Im certainly not saying this IS what is happening, im just saying it Could be, and is personally what direction i am leaning to, based off of my personal experience , and the competitions track record over the past decade, since maybe P4....or there about. If AMD WERE to officially back a "leak" like this, i wouldnt blame them, they have a Great deal to prove, and Intel is the proverbial goliath, and davids sling has been broken for years now.
opinions are not fact, so we'll see.

Agreed. I don't think we'll see the Athlon 64 Intel-beating days of 2005 (positively ancient history in the PC world!) but I'm convinced enough by what I've seen to believe that IPC will be within 5-15% of Intel's latest CPUs, which is enough to give them some tough competition and ensure better future products at better prices.

And yeah, I can't wait for the official reviews either to settle this once and for all.

@jboydgolfer I don't doubt for a minute that there's cherry picking going on here by AMD. However, I think if their products were that far behind Intel's then no amount of cherry picking would make them look remotely good, which is why I have some hope that Zen won't totally suck like Bulldozer and its offspring did. Imagine trying to cherry pick with Bulldozer against Intel's latest, for example. Couldn't possibly work in any scenario without completely fabricating the data.

One thing I can comment for 99% certain is that Blender absolutely loves cores and does very good job portraying powers of core number.

That is why I am using 14core xeon.

Another thing is that those few seconds of difference at the chart will multiply to hours in big renders. No real render ends in 100 seconds or less. Even at my level (amatuer), a full render will last at least 30 minutes for easy scenes and over an hour for heavy light bouncing scenes. On i7 4c/8t, it transaltes to 2 ~ 4 hours.

If AMD can get its pricing down and fight with # of cores instead of strength of cores, they might stand a chance since those server Xeons are mother-f--kingly expensive.

Say Intel decided competition looks better in their 5 year plan and are knocking off a bit. That is going to take more than one generation to be believable. Zen coming close to scaring Intel at the top end is probably more fairy tale than these PR leaks to sites with questionable ideas on what constitutes news. Safe bet is they eat into the NUC or Atom market a bit to regain face. Given their history with good graphics an i3 beater would really carve into the low end laptop market too.

Blender performance is what AMD has been spending all over the Internet since August.

So this is just more of the same crap. Let me know when there is something new and worth talking about.

Some inflammatory site needs to do a blind battle of the pre-production chips and see if they can guess which is which.. It's blatantly obvious all anyone here is doing is laughing at the awfulness of these types of sites already. That parenting site aggregating months old data came really close for me and many others to being comedy gold.

They should really, but they can get away with it this time. The Zen CPU is showing a 69 second rendering time, so judging by the lengths of the other lines you can get a sense of the times for the other CPUs and where Zen sits in the peformance hierarchy.

Just checked the source of the wccftech article - http://blenchmark.com/cpu-benchmarks - where it turns out that the above bar chart is just a small snippet of a much larger comparison, where the timings are shown at the bottom. Also, that legend against the AMD CPU is actually rendered by the Blenchmark site when hovering the mouse over the graph, so you can see exactly what the timing is for each CPU, even the really slow ones at the bottom that are way off the scale.

I'll wait until we at least find out what cpu this was lol. Everyone getting upset over this and you don't even know if it is a basic 8 core or 32 thread giant.
I think it's likely to be the 8-core, 16-thread one in the AMD promo video below that was posted in the other thread. Just my opinion from putting the two together. :)

I am assuming the same, but we really don't know.

I also tried running this on my 10 Xeon 2650v4, but apparently it needs an actual video card. Running it headless through RDP isn't cutting it.

I don't see enough information to really judge from this?
I am remaining openly optimistic in hope that AMD pulls a number this time round, we can't just have 1 company ruling the performance end of the CPU market.
