You gonna install Win7 fresh for SP1?

Windows 7 SP1 is released on the 22nd. My OS has been installed since June 2010 and has accumulated a bit of crap on it, although it's working fine.

Therefore, I'm thinking of reinstalling fresh with the service pack. In fact, I can get the install disc with SP1 integrated into it off my friend with an active TechNet sub and just use that.

You just gonna install SP1 over the top or reinstall the OS?

Unfortunately nLite doesn't work with Windows 7 and slipstreaming is no longer supported after XP.

But there is vlite. Works with 7. Not sure why Microsoft has a problem with slipstreaming and putting patches inside of a disc so you have it from the start of a fresh install, but they do.

Yes, it is very odd of them. This guy added some very useful functionality to Windows installs. I can only think that they're being paranoid about piracy in some way. Remember how when Vista was in beta they had an Update folder on the DVD so that the disc could be copied, various updates and customizations dropped in this folder and a new disc burned? Well, they dropped that feature, because they were too scared that people would make pre-cracked versions of Windows and distribute them on p2p. And what, we now don't have cracked pirated versions by removing this great feature? :rolleyes:

Once again, they have hurt the legitimate customer while doing nothing to stop piracy. Muppets. :shadedshu

Finally, vlite is very old, so I would recommend its use with caution. Without any recent development, it may well have showstopping problems now with the latest OS release.

people no longer need it anyway. waik does a great job with vista, 7 and 2k8. you can integrate drivers, updates (for ie, .net framework, media player)
