9800GTX is not even a single-slot solution. Go for HD4850.

i too vote for the 4850.

Yes you learned you dont need single slot (he thought it meant he needed two PCI-E slots) but even so the 4850 is hard to challenge for its value.

I'd suggest a 9600GT, 8800GT, or 4850 - in that price order. The 4850 has the best price to performance ratio, but its possible it will be harder to find as its a new card.

its more like

HD4870 $299 > 9800GTX+ $220 > HD4850 $199 = 9800GTX $199

9800gtx seems to have better cooling, you put it into ONE PCI-E SLOT (slot right? HAHA!) and you let the dual cooling do its job.....

people say dual slot cooler like its a bad thing, who uses heaps of pci devices anyway?

not to mention its a better cooler, that will run quieter, and uses the DHES system.

direct heat exhaust ftw.

Well, the 4850 does beat it by a bit.

I agree, dual-slot is the way to go. Single-slot cards dump the hot air in the case, if you have bad airflow, this is bad. Dual-slot cards almost always dump the air out of the back of the case.

in a few months when drivers mature, i think the HD4850 and 9800GTX are going to end up some of the best value cards to ever be on the gfx market. especially since you can supposedly get both at just under 199 US already.

and credit where credit is due, if you compare a 3850 to a 4850 and a 3870 to a 4870, the differences are remarkable.

and my 8800GTX when i used to OC it, took up 5 slots... just a couple of fans on it :p

dual slot doesnt always fit in every case. who uses a lot of cards? well some mobos have ridiculous layouts so that if you use two dual slot cards (crossfire, SLI) you end up with just one slot left over - good luck if its PCI or PCI-E 1x

From my research, for nvidia, since the 175.16 drivers the cards now have their fan fix and fan control whils the 3xxx and 4xxx series are stuck at 20%? is this true (n that rivatuner and stuff has no effect)

The 3xxx series fan's work fine, and have fan control. The 4xxx has no fan problem, but no software can control the fan yet.

How long does it usually take for say companies to make a dual slot version of a 4850? (if they will even do that...)

edit 1: well..i just wanted to edit, those 4870 reviews are great! cept.... $300 dollars is so much i wonder if its really worth it, im probably gonna keep this new card for like..ever :p

edit 2: and how about those price drops? could a 4850 or 4870 drop to like 170s/270s anytime soon?
