Z270 and dual channel

Hi! I have Maximus IX Formula (ASUS) and G.Skill 2x8 3600 CL16. I have this connected in B1 B2 (grey and black) slots, but have only single channel. Ive tried A1 A2 but the result was signle channel only again. So I tried to combine like A1 B1 and there dual channel comes up. The problem is I cant get any stability on ANY settings even extremely low with higher voltage (at lower voltage it works even worse). Its ASUS or Z270 or G.Skill. Thanks for help and informations.

They doesn't have to be, like my Geil memory they work fine at 3000mhz in my Gigabyte mobo but in my old Asus Z170i Gaming Pro the board wouldn't do 3000mhz only nearly 2800mhz and I still use the same i7-6700k and I only changed motherboard.

If u don't run the newest bios try to upgrade and if it still doesn't work it might be the board that don't want to run the memory at higher speed.

I know but it can give you problems if the ram isn't on there....

It's nice to live on the edge

But to be honest ram can be rated at 10.000mhz but that's not saying it will run at that speed in ur system u could be limited by board or cpu.

Yes my bios is updated, in dual channel (I call it crash mode) mode it would not do 2666 which is in intel specification in as I remember.

when I set it to XMP it works! wow! manual settings even with 1.57V wont do prime, its no overclocked but im happy that I have dual channel now

If the ram was on the QVL it should run on it's XMP rated speed @ around 1.35V.
1.57V for the ram seems a bit high to me....

P4 - he said manually setting it at 1.57v......

Also, the qvl really doesnt matter much... it has no bearing on voltage either.
