hi there, i got myself a gigabyte z390 ultra with a 9700k.
i'm quite pleased with my new setup but i wan't to have a sound card for dts from spdif (realtek modded drivers only works with movies)

but i also got a wifi card x1in the first PCI-e x1 slot.
this board got a onboard wifi chip

my question is when i will buy a nvme ssd in the future can i still run it x4 in the m2 slot because the 24 chipset lanes with the wifi card and sound card installed.

i got 4 sata ssd's now installed and usb 3.0 from the case in the motherboard.

i already know i got 16 cpu lanes for my graphics card and extra 24 lanes from the chipset so total 40? but graphics card already using 16 lanes

i don't know how many lanes it will use and if it's still possible to have a nvme ssd running full speed in the future :)

The M2P and bottom PCI-Ex16(x4 electrically) share bandwidth. So if you put an M.2 drive in the M2P M.2 slot, the bottom PCI-Ex16 slot will run at x2 instead of x4.

The other M.2 connectors don't share bandwidth, so you'll be fine if you put an M.2 drive in one of those.

Thx for the answer. So I will be fine with sound card x1 wifi card x1 and a nvme ssd at full speed x4 my chipset got enough pci lanes for it :) ( because wlonboard wifi also uses lanes sata etc)

Just buy a Schiit Modi 3 DAC, it sounds better than any of that by miles.

Get an external sound card, the inside of the case is an EMI hotbox, great for if you want all sorts of nasty interference to get into your audio lines.

First I was thinking about that but then I thought I don't have dts in games 5.1 with a external one real and movies with my logitech set. And I don't want to get a receiver etc hdmi. The only reason I got the sound card got it for 40 dollars sound blaster z was for dts and Dolby. And I think a dac could not have that?

When using 250 ohms or higher headsets oké. But for now I don't use such high ohms haha, the sound blaster z is qualified tho for 600 ohms but I know that's bullshit haha. Only reason I got this was for the 3d chip surround headphones. And the number one reason dts working again.
