Which is the better performing platform for Core i9 11900K when comparing the two Z590 motherboards, which of the two LGA 1200 flagships have the best components and design?

The 18+2 phase ASUS ROG Maximus XIII Extreme Glacial rated at 100 amps

OR

The 20 phase 90 amps power stage MSI MEG Z590 Godlike motherboar?

Thank You.

It doesn't matter much if you also decide to upgrade next gen CPU next year, because you need a new motherboard again anyway... Socket 1700.

Thank you for your response, however, i was referring more to quality built and performance wise?

As for 2022 I will have to see what AMD and Intel brings to the table, not a pie in the sky, but actual product quality and performance.

Furthermore, I’d rather not go through the typical early teething process with DDR5.

Only reason to spend more than €300 on a LGA1200 board is to get a 2dimm board like an Apex

But then again I should probably take your consideration of an Extreme Glacial and Godlike along with an apparently serious consideration to buy an 11900k as indications that you won't touch the memory at all so even a 2dimmer will be a waste...

Hi,
Must have missed the memo
11900k besides single core boost is a dud at current stupid pricing

If you wait for next chip for z590 it would be best if leaked r20 score was true that is.

Nothing godlike about msi
Best bios belongs to asus rog series period
But z590 apex is stupid priced at 600.us lol

I would like a platform that supports 128GB, I already have the 4 x 32GB. Had to return the Z590 Godlike, found it was defective after troubleshooting. It’s a smooth & fast platform, only trouble was, it had some memory issues, at least my GPU wasn’t the culprit; Thank God, as that would have been a real b**ch, what with scalping being the trend?!

Some of the other criteria are 18 + 2 power phase at 90 or 100 amps, Thunderbolt, high performance networking, Onboard WiFi 6E (802.11ax), PCIe 4.0, at least 3 x NVMe M.2, et al.

I have everything else ready to go, except the water cooling.

Thank You for the input.

Hi,
Yes memory is an issue with 11...k series period
Most that do go z590 are opting for 10900k instead "no memory issues" until next I guess 12...k series drops
B-Die Finder

But either way any asus ROG board would be fine if you get pasted the high prices so if you need that much memory it's cool rog boards can handle it
My z590 apex comment I made was really in reaction to poster above mine.

Thanks, that’s a useful database

I have G. Skill Trident Z Royal 128GB DDR4 4000 (PC4 32000).

Don't bother with consumer platforms then. Running 4 dual rank DIMMs is just a complete mess irrespective of the board.

tbh. you'd upgrade to a (max.) 8 Core CPU that consumes (unlocked) as much power as a 64 core AMD CPU while being slower in literally everything except 2-3 cherrypicked benchmarks.

wait for alder lake or buy a 5800X.

First & foremost, this was a weird market. I began on an AMD path but waited months for inventory but the were pushing the older/earlier Ryzens. Then there was the GPU madness.

Id like to see what AMD has in store for Zen 4, Genoa, threadripper

Rather than wait, when the i9 11900K came on the market, there was still no sign of the Ryzen i was waiting for, so I went ahead to get the 11Gen Intel to tie me over till, possibly later 2022 when the market stabilized on the new platforms/DDR5.

Early adopters on DDR5 can expect teething issues because manufacturers traditionally use consumers as the R&D test bed/market.

At this point, I’ve ended with the Radeon 6900 and i9 11900K, for a workstation, graphics, lots of multitasking, et al.

Am most appreciative of all the comments and after much thought, I’m now leaning more towards the ASUS Maximus XIII Hero, once the vendor credits the refund back to my account for the RMA MSI MEG Z590 Godlike.

I still like the Asus Glacial for it‘s improved power handling and water cooling features, as the dedicated cold plate covers the CPU, Chipset, VRM and NVMe M.2 drives.

Overall computer components are overpriced these days.

Every enthusiast has their own definition of well-priced and overpriced, it's relative and point of view.

I feel the Z590 Maximus XIII Extreme at $899, and Extreme Glacial at $1499 are overpriced - at least for my needs.

Yet, those two boards sell out at the ASUS US Store every 2-3weeks, so somebody must be buying them up, just not me.

When ASUS markets the Maximus XIII Extreme Glacial as your next Dream System motherboard, I say to myself - I'm already using my dream system...

Maximus XIII Hero is a very good decision, congratulations. :toast:

Go with the Hero I've worked with the z490 variant and it's pretty great.... Spending upwards of 1000 usd on a board for a crap 8 core cpu is madness. Especially one you plan on ditching in a year or 2.

It's highly unlikely you will get 128GB of ram running at 4000MT/s maybe 3200MT/s would be doable.

Agreed. I tried to avoid the 11900K binned at launch date it was $875, picked up the 11600K also high binned at only $330. Moved the saved $600 into the M13A.

Mostly since I'm air-cooling and didn't feel a simple Noctua sink could handle 8 thermally inefficient cores overclocked.

I don't believe Intel brought their A-game to Rocket Lake, but they did what they could, the Single-Thread performance is amazing vs my older 8086K and the 11600K and 11400 are very strong values. Another POV, those XOC guys are buying up the 11900Ks and loving them, but they buy every new gen just to clock it for HWbot or just the pure enjoyment of the hobby, then sell their gear and buy the next gen all over again, it's all relative - point of view and purpose for your build.

For me, I'm just creating a speedy home office computer lol :), with no plans to compete or send my scores to HWbot at all.

Sorry for moving a bit offtopic, if the OP has some RKL questions I can help him out. :toast:

I'm a strong believer that people should buy what they want and if the OP is dead set on buying a 1000 usd board more power to him it's just not needed if what he cares about is performance even a 250-300 usd board will be within a couple % points even overclocked to the maxed...

He might have a slightly better chance running his memory kit but that's a mute point if his IMC on his cpu can't handle 128gb at that speed and I wouldn't bet on it on top of that Rocket lake scales oddly once you are no longer synced with the memory controller and afaik above 3600 isn't possible 1:1 and even that can be difficult.

edit.. Seems like both the Hero and the Extreme cap out at 3600 CL18 for 4x32GB dimms on the QVL.

Seems like the Godlike caps out around the same speed/timings.

Yep, people have their strong reasons for wanting/needing 4DIMMS and I don't attempt to persuade them into my tiny niche world of 2DIMM boards.

Add on the "Hobby Aspect" and you can discount basic need to get the job done - altogether. People are going to purchase what makes them happy. :)

And so be it. :toast:

Its a shame you couldnt have gotten ahold of a threadripper platform for your graphics workstation OP! From what ive seen the 3960/70 would have been perfect in all respects for you.
Unfortunately sourcing new gear next year will probably be just as difficult as it was this year. Scalpers have found a windfall in reselling high end computer parts.

i just upgraded everything to GEN4 without any exception.
a new CPU comes to my house when then MIT (US university) made their promise true to put out a new CPU architecture to the normal market for normal prices. est. in 2-3 years. the 14µm architecture is at its limits.
so... imo buy something nice for a good price and do it completely. and skip maybe the next CPU/MoBO/Cooler -Generation

Thank you for your response, however, i was referring more to quality built and performance wise?

As for 2022 I will have to see what AMD and Intel brings to the table, not a pie in the sky, but actual product quality and performance.

Furthermore, I’d rather not go through the typical early teething process with DDR5.
Asus on Quality and Bios Support. AsRock 2nd.
