Korean cooling specialist Zalman introduced the ZM-RHS90 heatsink specially designed for ATI Radeon HD 4890, and HD 4870 reference-design PCB. The heatsink is made of anodized aluminum. It measures 93.4 x 36.5 x 23 mm (LxWxH), and weighs 55 g. Due to the large number of Radeon HD 4890/HD 4870 graphics cards in the market using the reference AMD PCB design, Zalman expects a good compatibility range. The heatsink is mounted behind the VDDC chokes, and covers the most significant set of MOSFETs on the card. It uses push-pin retention mechanism. The use of this heatsink is recommended by Zalman, when users opt for their compatible GPU heatsinks that don't cover the card's VRM area. It will arrive at stores very soon.

What I'm wondering is that why Zalman is the only one offering this. I'm thinking that it won't affect OCability all that much, but they're probably going to sell just because of the Zalman name.

VRM cooling is not necessarily for OCability, but the prevention of blown VRM due to overheating (especially while OC'ing as the card will draw more power).

thermalright has something coming out soon as well ;)

Thanks for your mail.
We have the solution for the HD4890 just now. Our T-RAD² and HR-03GT are both compatible with the layout of HD4890/4870/4850, but for high-end VGA like HD-4890/4870, they will need a special VRM kit which we just launched at Computex. You will be notified on our official site once they are available.

IMO Zalman is a cheap company they always use the cheapest material's possible and charge the highest price's

but people keep buying there product's

I don't think that is true. I have been really impressed with the quality of Zalman products that I have used and their prices don't seem to be much higher than equal competitors.

Interesting. The VRM's on a 4890 can get quite hot.

If it is cheap I don't see why not.

Last thing you want is to pop a VRM while overclocking...

Now make one for GTX 260/280 too (although that would be a smaller market).

I agree with Zalman having good products, I have yet to install my VF1000. I also agree that Thermalright has their own share of dynamite cooling devices. The HR-03GT looks like a killer cooler from the few reviews I've just checked out.

Finally a heatsink that can be modded into a waterblock. It figures it would come out after a lot of wasted hours trying to make one.

the HR-03gt is a great cooler, cooling wise atleast. but it is an absolute beast in size, 3 1/2 slots wide. i have a lian-li full tower case with the psu in the bottom. so even the bottom slot was a no-go. had to go back to factory HS when i went x-fire.

the vrm's do get very hot, glad to see them getting marketed finally. i had to rig up some old ddr ramsink that was way bigger than bga ramsinks, but a bit smaller than this zalman. i still had to use a 80mm fan over the vrm's to keep them from overheating.

the HR-03 (any model) can be mounted in 2 orientation's to facilitate crossfire/SLi ;)

you can mount the cooler on "top" of the card or "below" the card....

There is also a third mounting position for the HR-03 if you are careful. Repositioning of heatsink required to keep cooler in the case. I have had a couple of very serious issues with Thermalright and will be giving the Zalman a chance this time.

This is actually GREAT news for water cooling people. You can now buy a GPU waterblock that is not full coverage, and use these to cool the VRM section, as opposed to spending 4 times as much on a full coverage and have to replace them every time you update your graphics cards!

Hooray!

WOW , what a briliant design , what a breaktrough in cooling tehnology , look at those fins how sexy they are !!!
Now really guys , this is what zalman think is news ? they must be doing very bad if they launch this , features :
The heatsink is mounted behind the VDDC chokes
unbelievable ,
and covers the most significant set of MOSFETs on the card
intresting ,
It uses push-pin retention mechanism
spectacular ,
The use of this heatsink is recommended by Zalman
Duh ,
It will arrive at stores very soon.
i can't wait for it.
Edit
One more thing about zalman , i can't speak for other parts of the world but in my country zalman is overpriced and not so good compared to Thermalright,Cooler Master and Scythe , it's just ridiculous expensive , even the tiniest cooler have an absurd high price.

Why not copper?

Because it would have cost more and not been necessary. Aluminum will work just fine. Aluminum is working just fine for the custom made one I'm using on my 4890.

Any idea if this will fit ok when an Accelero S1 is installed on a 4890?
