The Radeon R9 M390 Mac Edition was a mobile graphics chip by AMD, launched on May 5th, 2015. Built on the 28 nm process, and based on the Pitcairn graphics processor, in its Pitcairn PRO variant, the chip supports DirectX 12. Even though it supports DirectX 12, the feature level is only 11_1, which can be problematic with newer DirectX 12 titles. The Pitcairn graphics processor is an average sized chip with a die area of 212 mm² and 2,800 million transistors. Unlike the fully unlocked Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition, which uses the same GPU but has all 1280 shaders enabled, AMD has disabled some shading units on the Radeon R9 M390 Mac Edition to reach the product's target shader count. It features 1024 shading units, 64 texture mapping units, and 32 ROPs. AMD has paired 2,048 MB GDDR5 memory with the Radeon R9 M390 Mac Edition, which are connected using a 256-bit memory interface. The GPU is operating at a frequency of 958 MHz, memory is running at 1365 MHz (5.5 Gbps effective).
Being a mxm module card, the AMD Radeon R9 M390 Mac Edition does not require any additional power connector, its power draw is rated at 80 W maximum. This device has no display connectivity, as it is not designed to have monitors connected to it. Rather it is intended for use in laptop/notebooks and will use the output of the host mobile device. Radeon R9 M390 Mac Edition is connected to the rest of the system using a PCI-Express 3.0 x16 interface.
