The Radeon Sky 900 was a professional graphics card by AMD, launched on March 27th, 2013. Built on the 28 nm process, and based on the Tahiti graphics processor, in its Orthrus variant, the card supports DirectX 12. The Tahiti graphics processor is a large chip with a die area of 352 mm² and 4,313 million transistors. Unlike the fully unlocked Radeon HD 7970, which uses the same GPU but has all 2048 shaders enabled, AMD has disabled some shading units on the Radeon Sky 900 to reach the product's target shader count. Radeon Sky 900 combines two graphics processors to increase performance. It features 1792 shading units, 112 texture mapping units, and 32 ROPs, per GPU. AMD has paired 6 GB GDDR5 memory with the Radeon Sky 900, which are connected using a 384-bit memory interface per GPU (each GPU manages 3,072 MB). The GPU is operating at a frequency of 825 MHz, which can be boosted up to 950 MHz, memory is running at 1250 MHz (5 Gbps effective).
Being a dual-slot card, the AMD Radeon Sky 900 draws power from 2x 8-pin power connectors, with power draw rated at 300 W maximum. Display outputs include: 1x DVI, 1x mini-DisplayPort 1.2. Radeon Sky 900 is connected to the rest of the system using a PCI-Express 3.0 x16 interface. The card measures 305 mm in length, 111 mm in width, and features a dual-slot cooling solution.
