The Radeon HD 8950M was a mobile graphics chip by AMD, launched on May 14th, 2013. Built on the 28 nm process, and based on the Saturn graphics processor, in its Saturn XT variant, the chip supports DirectX 12. This ensures that all modern games will run on Radeon HD 8950M. The Saturn graphics processor is an average sized chip with a die area of 160 mm² and 2,080 million transistors. Unlike the fully unlocked Radeon R9 M280X, which uses the same GPU but has all 896 shaders enabled, AMD has disabled some shading units on the Radeon HD 8950M to reach the product's target shader count. It features 768 shading units, 48 texture mapping units, and 16 ROPs. AMD has paired 2,048 MB GDDR5 memory with the Radeon HD 8950M, which are connected using a 128-bit memory interface. The GPU is operating at a frequency of 1075 MHz, memory is running at 1375 MHz (5.5 Gbps effective). Being a mxm module card, its power draw is rated at 100 W maximum. This device has no display connectivity, as it is not designed to have monitors connected to it. Rather it is intended for use in laptop/notebooks and will use the output of the host mobile device. Radeon HD 8950M is connected to the rest of the system using a PCI-Express 3.0 x16 interface.
