Lian Li updated its DK-05 and DK-04 desk-type PC cases as the new DK-05F and DK-04F. The two come with electrochromic glass tops. With applications in office cubicles (privacy glass), automobiles (auto-dimming rear-view mirrors), and passenger aircraft like the Boeing 787, electrochromic glass allows you to adjust transparency and clarity. On Lian Li's DK-series desk-type cases, these let you adjust the opacity of the glass top, or its "blurriness." The frame of the glass top can be studded with ARGB strips so the glass top acts like a translucent diffuser. The case's front-panel now comes with a dedicated compound button to configure the glass.

Another design change with the DK-05F and DK-04F is a new detachable motherboard tray design. The tray now separates from the rest of the inner chassis, such that it only holds the motherboard's rear I/O shield and expansion slots (you don't end up pulling out the PSU along with it, like on the original DK-05/04). The rest of the feature-sets of the two are identical to their original counterparts. The DK-05F is designed for dual-system builds, with two independent ATX-size systems inside; while the DK-04F is designed for single-system builds. The DarkMirror acrylic front panel is smoked a shade darker to sharpen the contrast of the ARGB fans pre-installed behind it, highlighting its best features.

CORSAIR introduced us to their small form factor Capellix LEDs, co-developed with Primax, at CES last year and has since been utilizing them in memory and peripheral products alike. So it was just a natural next step for them to find a way to include them into their cases, and the company took to CES 2020 to show off a traditional retail case which has been covered with a film encompassing these LEDs.

The glass panels are lined with a thin, transparent film so that you are able to have a matrix of these RGB LEDs on the backside without any easily visible wires, which makes for quite a unique look. This implementation does require a lot of more complex wiring relative to a standard LED strip, tiny as it still may be spatially, which currently limits the number of LEDs that could be embedded in such a removable panel, but the result is attention-grabbing regardless. There is no concrete launch date or pricing for this, and CORSAIR is still deciding if they will include these on current cases as a special edition or for future enclosure products. That said, the implementation at CES already looked pretty clean externally and, a fun fact is, you can touch them on the backside of the glass panel and will not get zapped.

Cougar unveiled the DarkBlader line of ATX full-tower cases characterized by an asymmetric trapezoid front design, and two variants based the front panel. The DarkBlader-G has a tinted tempered glass front insert, while the DarkBlader-S has an anodized-aluminium insert arranged in a stepped pattern. The rest of the front panels on both models have a brushed metal finish. The right side panel is dominated by a tempered glass panel, and the case's front-panel connectivity are arranged along the side, with light-framing that glow in RGB. On both cases a trapezoid RGB LED diffuser runs along the height of the case. Besides ATX, the case supports E-ATX and CEB motherboard form-factors.

Inside, the DarkBlader features a conventional horizontally-partitioned layout. The motherboard tray has room for graphics cards up to 38 cm in length, and CPU coolers up to 17 cm in height. Storage options include two 3.5-inch trays that can also hold 2.5-inch drives; and 3.5-inch mounts behind the motherboard tray, which can also hold onto 2.5-inch drives. MONTECH is a brand originally founded in 2016 that has been quite successful in the Asian market. Now it is looking to expand to Western countries, with a commitment to quality ensured by experienced engineers & designers from Taiwan.

MONTECH's core value is bringing "good value" to customers. The products are either better equipped or sold at a cheaper price than their competitors. Although the price may be lower than competitors', quality control is very demanding, including a random sampling of up to 40% of the finished products. The cases are aspiring to be very innovative and functional. The Air900 series, which will be launched this June, emphasizes airflow and dust protection. It comes with 3 dust filters (front, top, bottom), big area airflow design, and the unique design of detachable mesh on the sides.

Gamdias brought a boatload of cases to Computex as well this year including some new designs including the ATHENA M2 and ARGUS M1. Starting with the ARGUS M1, it features a sleeker more subdued external design, that while equipped with RGB lighting is tastefully done with a semi-L shaped front accent. It also has illuminated USB ports, which was a nice novelty feature. When it comes to cooling the front panel has side vents, but it should be noted they do not extend all the way up, limiting potential air intake. That said, a 360mm radiator will easily fit in the front.

Sharkoon appeared quite ready to take a bite out of the competition at Computex 2019. They came to the show with a full assortment of cases, keyboards, mice, gaming chairs and even a mini USB DAC for gamers which was quite nice to see as it was unexpected and unique coming from Sharkoon. Dubbed the Gaming DAC Pro S, it packs a powerful high-resolution gaming DAC with TRRS microphone input. It can also act as a USB soundcard with headphone Amp for an immersive crystal clear audio experience. It is worth noting that it is compatible with Android on top of the Windows and macOS.

When looking for unique, trendsetting, or just plain odd, In Win has you covered when it comes to cases. Every year they bring something interesting and at Computex 2019 that trend continues with the 9th-generation Signature Series, otherwise dubbed Yǒng, cases. This latest design is 3D printed with each one being built to order. In Win is using ABS plastic for this design, and users can pick any color they wish with the company preparing a website that will allow users to customize the case to their liking. Just be prepared for sticker shock as these cases are expected to cost $4000 each. If that doesn't take your breath away one way or another, I don't know what will.

While visiting the Tecware exhibit, we took the time to check out the numerous cases they had on hand. We started with the VXR dual chamber chassis which was eye-grabbing, to say the least. Featuring a dual chamber layout, it had a sandblasted aluminum exterior with front and side tempered glass panels for getting the best possible view of your hardware. While some cases with such a layout can be starved for air, Tecware took that into account with increased airflow and cooling configurations being available. That, of course, brings up the potential for dust; however, they made sure to include dust filters to help mitigate the issue. On top of all that, the VXR also has removable HDD/SSD trays for easier installation along with extra space for improved cable management.

Taking a closer look at the cooling options the VXR has clearance for CPU coolers of up to 140mm in height which is a bit limiting, but when you consider its radiator support more than makes up for it. The chassis has enough space for up to a 240mm radiator in the top, 240mm radiator in the bottom, and a 360mm radiator on the side. Actual space for fans is a bit different with the case allowing for 3x 120mm in the front, 3x 120mm on the side and 3x 120mm in the bottom. Overall the case is a solid option for custom water cooling or for those planning to use an all-in-one liquid cooled GPU and CPU. As for graphics cards, total clearance was listed as 385mm. Finally, storage and expansion space consist of 2x 3.5" HDD, 4x 2.5" SSD (2 modular SSD trays) and 8x expansion slots. The VXR has an MSRP of $89.99.

Akasa this Computex unveiled half a dozen new premium cases for congested desks and living rooms, which make use of copious amounts of aluminium to both look good and stay cool without any moving parts (read: fans). The Dot and Gem made us go "awww" first. The Dot looks like a Lego brick that spent too much time in Pripyat (although not as big as a real brick itself). It can house several models of Raspberry Pi, ASUS Tinker Board, and ODROID-C2, which are ARM-based "makerboards." You also get an included SD card reader, and room for a Hi-Fi Berry DAC board to go with your Pi. The Gem has a nearly identical design, but with an eclectic top plate design.

The Skytale and Skytale-X, obviously so-named to catch PC enthusiasts' eyes as they passed by the booth, are sleek, silvery-aluminium HTPC cases with a monolithic design (as opposed to heatsink ridges sticking out of the sides). With a height of just 50 mm, both cases are designed for mini-ITX motherboards that needn't be thin. What sets the two apart is the presence of a full-height add-on card slot on the Skytale-X, which uses a PCIe riser. Lastly, we spotted a new variant of the Turing case Akasa launched in February, which comes in a racy shade of blue.

FSP is doubling down on premium PC cases this Computex. The company unveiled the eye-catching CMT710 open-air chassis. Made from aerospace-grade aluminium and tempered glass, the case features a symmetric, forward-tilting design that's partitioned vertically right along the middle. Each of the two halves has enough width to accommodate 17 cm tall add-on cards or 140 mm-wide radiators. The left side houses the motherboard tray with room for add-on cards close to 40 cm in length. You can also use up the front space to mount a 420 mm x 140 mm radiator, while still leaving room for a pump+reservoir.

The right side is where you'd normally expect the PSU bay, a bunch of drive bays, and room for more liquid cooling gear, until you discover that this half of the case has enough room for a second motherboard, oriented upside down, complete with room for its own liquid-cooling loop. Both halves have vertical add-on card capability letting you show off your high-end VGA. If you decide not to have a second system, you have enough room for dozens of hard drives, elaborate liquid cooling setups, or anything your mind can conjure up in space meant for an entire system!

Zalman didn't forget to bring some cases to Computex, with the company bringing what appears to be there entire lineup spearheaded by the Z-Machine 500. It is an aggressive chassis that uses an open case design for maximum airflow and capable of handling just about any air or liquid cooling setup. It offers support for up to a 360 mm radiator in the front and a 240 mm radiator at the top and comes with five pre-installed 120 mm Spider RGB fans. Due to the internal layout, the motherboard I/O is up top, allowing for easy access. It should also be noted that while classified as an ATX mid-tower, it is only capable of handling 2x SSDs.

Zalman's TWCS 500 on the other hand while very similar to the Z-Machine 500 offers a unique hybrid cooling system, which is a combination of water cooling and immersion cooling. It has support for the same 5x 120 mm fans and comes with a 360 mm radiator pre-installed up front. There is space for a 240 mm radiator up top as well. Like the previous chassis it to is limited to 2x SSDs for storage. These basic features while acceptable can't hold a candle to two features Zalman has listed for this case, with the company listing "Ensure(d) Stability by Applying Insulating Fluoric Refrigerant (10 Degrees Cooler Than Other Cases)" and "Strengthen(ed) Antifouling Function Against Mineral Oil Refrigerant." It definitely makes the hybrid cooling functionality sound a whole lot more interesting.
