EK Waterblocks had been the subject of more than one article over the recent months here at TechPowerUp, wherein we broke news about top management (at the time) having parted ways with the company and this in turn led to speculation about how this would affect the indubitable leader in market share when it comes to DIY watercooling today. We began our look with the new Velocity CPU block. Those who kept up with the subject would remember EK recently admitted they could have, and should have, done better with their offering for AMD's sTR4 socket (Threadripper platform) and had recently shown off a new cold plate design to improve on thermal performance. The new Velocity sTR4 takes advantage of this new cold plate and is available in three different top offerings of acetal with a frosted plexi lining to diffuse lighting by the side, a polished plexi top, and a full nickel-plated brass metal top- all of which use the same nickel-plated copper cold plate. Indeed, the Velocity tagline is now used for their entire range of new CPU blocks that share a similar ID for the smaller CPU sockets as well, with a cold plate that looks similar to that of the older Supremacy EVO but we will definitely take a closer look in upcoming reviews. EK did tell us that the new Velocity CPU blocks are one-piece blocks not meant to be taken apart and customized for different socket types. There are a lot of smaller aesthetic changes here including beveled edges, corner cutouts and arrows to indicate the recommended plumbing layout. One other interesting thing to point out here is that EK also designed a cold plate variation to be used with delidded Intel mainstream CPUs via a small circular section jutting outwards as seen in the images below. All of the new Velocity CPU blocks also come with a new mounting plate that supposedly improves on both looks and material strength. Oh, all of these also have RGB lighting incorporated even with the metal top version- the revised EK badge on these blocks is backlit after all.

EK Water Blocks (EKWB) did not have the greatest end to 2017, losing key members of their top management, some of whom found employment with CORSAIRas we later found out. The performance of their CPU water block for AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPUs was also a matter of great debate among enthusiasts, with the cold plate having machined microfins that occupied an area smaller than that occupied by the CPU dies themselves. A few tests from end users and the media alike pointed towards disappointing thermal dissipation relative to the competition and, even though EKWB insisted that the block was good enough, the bad press likely was enough to convince them otherwise.

In a public apology published as a press release on their website, EKWB today even conceded that they did not give their best for the product as it is and laid down some plans to make it right. In Win has always been known for their out-of-the-box designs and exotic cases. And as always, the brand didn't disappoint and showcased some impressive offerings at their booth. The 909 was the first case that we encountered upon entering. In this occasion, the case showed a few minor upgrades which included a co-branded reservoir from EK Water Blocks, 5mm thick tinted tempered glass side panels, dazzling LED lighting effects, and a front USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C connector. However, the 909 wasn't the only model that got a makeover. In Win's popular 101 case received a special TUF treatment from ASUS as well. The front panel now sports an attractive orange-yellow theme making it a perfect match for TUF Gaming motherboards.

The 915 is a new full-tower case that flaunts a sexy curved exterior, premium aluminium body with tinted tempered glass side panels, and RGB lighting. It also features a cool automatic elevating ventilation cover on the top. In Win also brought their latest mini-ITX case, the A1, to the show. This miniature model comes equipped with a 600W power supply and Polaris RGB fans. The final case on our tour is the WINBOT which looks like it came out of a sci-fi movie. It's basically an aluminium case that lives inside a plexiglass bubble. As a result, users can have a 360° view of the system inside. The case is equipped with an advanced facial detection module which allows it to scan, observe, and react to your hand signals.

It was a month ago that TechPowerUp broke the news about EK Water Blocks parting ways with then CEO, CTO and Head of Marketing, among others. Speculations arose from readers concerning what could have happened behind the scenes to result in such a dramatic change to what was otherwise a successful time period for the company. Today we can let everyone know what happened to those who left the company, and this news has deeper potential implications to the PC DIY market. Both Mark Tanko, ex-CEO, and Niko Tivadar, ex-CTO, confirmed to us that they have officially joined CORSAIR.
