EPOMAKER Keyboards at 2024 CES: V87, RT100, and Alice 98, and Corded Cables

EPOMAKER at the 2024 International CES showed off its recent gaming peripherals. The company specializes in retro-futuristic looking keyboards that look like they're from the 1980s, but are backed by modern tech. Our tour begins with the CIDOO V87, a TKL wireless keyboard with matte linear key switches, an aluminium unibody chassis, a programmable metal rotary knob, and dye-sublimation PBT keycaps. It supports RF + Bluetooth + USB-C connectivity, and a 3,000 mAh battery with fast charging can run the keyboard for days with its lighting.

Next up, is the RT100, a 95% (97-key) format mechanical keyboard, featuring a gasket-mounting ergonomic design, flexible choices of key switches between Gateron and EPOMAKER (in-house); and 3 connectivity options. Pay attention to the stub near the Esc key—it has a little multi-color LED display that can be used to put out real-time monitoring stats. The EPOMAKER Feker Alice 98 is modeled after the early-1990s Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard that sees the main key cluster split and angled into two; except with all the "modern amenities," such as pre-lubed mechanical key switches, RF + Bluetooth + USB-C interfaces, and more. There is a variant with an off-white CNC aluminium top-plate, and another with a small programmable screen. Lastly, EPOMAKER displayed its MIX Pro retro-futuristic USB-C cable meant to mimic the coiled cord look of keyboards from the 1980s.

Today marks a very special launch at Glorious. We are thrilled to release four tournament-grade mice, crafted for gaming enthusiasts in need of high performance gear. Introducing the Model O 2 PRO and the Model O 2 PRO 4K/8KHz Edition, as well as the Model D 2 PRO and the Model D 2 PRO 4K/8KHz Edition. In this article, we'll break down how we came to develop these gaming mice, and dive into each of the features for all four devices.

A HIGH-PERFORMANCE GAMING MOUSE, YEARS IN THE MAKING
When we first released the original Model O back in 2019, it took the gaming community by storm. We designed it with direct feedback from gamers worldwide, and we were thrilled with the overwhelmingly positive response it received. Fast-forward a few years later, we hosted a limited edition group buy, featuring an enhanced version of this device: Model O PRO Forge Edition. It was a stripped down version of the original mouse, sporting only the necessary cutting-edge tech for optimal performance at the lightest weight possible. Though we will no longer be hosting group buys, we decided to take this optimized mouse, turbocharge it with next-generation technology (more on this later), and make it one of our mainline products.

Logitech Introduces Ergonomic Wave Keys and Wave Keys for Business

Today, Logitech unveiled Wave Keys and Wave Keys for Business, a wireless ergonomic keyboard to address the increased need for wellbeing and comfort at the desk. Wave Keys features a signature wave design in a compact layout for comfortable typing that does not require relearning how to type, as well as an integrated cushioned palm rest for day-long support. As individuals of all ages spend more time in front of their computers, ergonomic needs are on the rise.

"We believe that everybody deserves to feel good at the end of a day of work, so we set about designing workspace essentials that are as attractive and approachable as they are ergonomic," said Art O'Gnimh, general manager of the Core Personal Workspace business at Logitech. "Wave Keys has workspace wellbeing at its heart, thanks to its science-driven design with a stamp of approval from leading ergonomists."

Logitech's Upcoming Ergonomic Keyboard Leaks Ahead of Launch

Logitech is readying a new ergonomic keyboard that will go under the name of Wave Keys according to several product images posted by WinFuture. As the name implies, the keyboard is wave shaped, but it's also somewhat curved and takes a slightly different design approach to its shape compared to the current Logitech Wave keyboard. The arrow keys have been shifted to the left, under the right shift key and the cluster of keys above the arrow keys on a full-size keyboard have been moved to the same row as where the function keys would normally be, in favour of the print screen, scroll lock pause keys.

The function keys get to share duty with various media keys and what not and the Wave Keys keyboard has also been designed to be Apple compatible, so the ctrl, alt and windows keys are shared with the cmd and opt keys you'd find on an Apple keyboard. What stands out the most is the integrated, soft and apparently cushioned palm rest, which not only is huge, but seems very likely to attract dirt and grime over time. The Wave Keys support both Bluetooth and Logitech's proprietary wireless connectivity and the company claims up to three years battery life. The keyboard is said to launch later this week for €99.99 in the Eurozone.

Angry Miao Launches AM AFA, the World's First Alice Keyboard with 3-stage Adjustable Leaf-spring Mount, Starting at $680

On November 1, 2022, Angry Miao officially launched AM AFA, the world's first mechanical Alice keyboard with 3-stage adjustable leaf-spring mount for 18 different typing combos. At the same time, Angry Miao announced the Hover Ergonomic Maglev Wrist Rest, provided as a free gift with all AM AFA purchases. AM AFA takes its inspiration from one of the Angry Miao team's favorite mecha animes with its fighter jet-like forward-swept design. Like a fighter jet, AM AFA excels in next-level design, mounting system, and craftsmanship.

Hollowing out the metal frame of AM AFA takes over 7 hours and is done using high-precision 5-axis CNC machinery. Its smooth edges are carefully cut and polished. After 2 hours of manual grinding and sandblasting of each single piece, AM AFA receives its body finish through anodizing, electrophoresis, or baked paint. The design of the AM AFA's adjustable leaf-spring mount takes its inspiration from height adjustable coilover suspension seen on cars since the 1950s. Coilovers allow for stiffness and range adjustment of the car's suspension, and Angry Miao's three-stage adjustable leaf-spring mount brings a similar experience to keyboards. Benefiting from the advantages of the Alice keyboard layout, AM AFA has built-in three-stage leaf-spring with adjustable gears. Just place the rubber stopper in a different gear to adjust the flex of the inner assembly, and experience keyboard flex with different levels of softness and hardness.

SecretLab Announces New TITAN Evo (2022 Series) Ergonomic Chairs

Secretlab is quite possibly the most famous of the ergonomic/gaming chair brands today, with many a content creator finding themselves sitting on a 2020 Series Omega or Titan. The 2018 series had left us quite impressed, and we were invited to the launch of the then-new 2020 series in New York City a little over two years ago in May 2019. That seems like an eternity has passed since, and such is the nature of the world today that a similar launch event would just not be prudent or practical. As such, Secretlab took to the traditional online route to announce its latest and greatest—the TITAN Evo 2022 series.
I have seen first hand how many people bought the Titan to only realize it was too big, just because they saw the Secretlab branding and the T on other chairs without realizing the Secretlab Omega was better suited for them. On the flip side, the Titan XL should have been what taller people would have needed more, but the Titan just became synonymous with the brand to where Secretlab has acknowledged this with the the new TITAN Evo 2022 series that comes in three different sizes (S, R, XL) while keeping the same feature set. The small TITAN Evo is rated best for people with height between 150-169 cm and weighing under 90 Kg, the regular TITAN Evo for heights between 170-189 cm and weight under 100 Kg, and finally the TITAN Evo XL is best for people measuring in at 181-205 cm and 80-180 Kg. The S and R sizes also get shorter hydraulics and an optimized seat base to allow users to comfortably rest feet flat on the ground. Read past the break for more on the updated features with the new Secretlab TITAN Evo chairs!

Zergotech Introduces the Zergotech Freedom: Aussie-based Ergonomic Mechanical Keyboard

Well, introduces to yours truly at least! The Zergotech Freedom has officially been out since April 2020, but anything before March this year might as well be a parallel universe. The Sydney-based company has thus been also seeing a hard time getting the word out on their take on the ergonomic, split mechanical keyboard design. Developed in collaboration with another Sydney-based design company, Boost Design, the Zergotech Freedom has since won the Red Dot product design award and, as of the time of this post, the Australian Good Design award. These design awards specifically call out the two features that interested me as well, in the form of the patented sliding palm rests that ensure your palms are always supported when needed only, and the semi-orthogonal key layout that should theoretically lower the learning curve when going from a more-traditional staggered column setup to the parallel columnar setup usually employed in such keyboards.

The Zergotech Freedom otherwise ticks off just about every feature I expect to see from a split ergonomic keyboard in 2020, including the option of different tactile, clicky, and linear feedback mechanical switches from Kailh, multi-OS compatibility with a programmable interface to customize key mapping on the different layers of the keyboard, tilting and tenting of the keyboard halves for ergonomics, as well as the ability to go with blank keycaps out of the box if desired. What is different here, apart from those palm rests aforementioned, is the inclusion of O-rings to make the keyboard quieter, as well as the provision of a 75% keyboard for discrete key functionality. This means that the learning curve will be even lower, although the foot print occupied by the keyboard is higher than contemporary offerings. The Zergotech Freedom retails from $339 US, the pricing being another thing in common with other such keyboards, and one that I want to get my hands on to see if the pricing is justified.

ZSA Announces The Moonlander Mark 1 Next-gen Ergonomic Keyboard

ZSA Technology Labs, the makers of the excellent ErgoDox EZ Shine and the Planck EZ today introduced their latest ergonomic keyboard titled The Moonlander Mark 1. The company claims this is a result of over three years of R&D, incorporating feedback from customers and the general keyboard community as a whole on what they wanted from the ErgoDox EZ and other such split, ergonomic keyboards. The Moonlander Mark 1 boasts features including a thumb cluster that can be positioned to better suit your hand size/shape, tilting and tenting of the two keyboard halves for better ergonomics, a wrist rest (on each half) that automatically angles with tilting/tenting, hot-swappable switches with Cherry MX and Kailh BOX switches to choose from out of the box, and enhanced portability with the ability to fold the wrist rest (wing) and just plug in the left half via Type-C connectivity to use as a game/macro-pad.

The Moonlander Mark 1 continues the design scheme of the ErgoDox EZ and Planck EZ in having columnar keys, is available in black or white colors, and with ten switch options at checkout. Fully open source firmware is available here as well, for both programming the keys and layers of functions and also the RGB LEDs for backlighting of every single key. There is a first-party configurator available as well, with Windows, macOS, and Linus support without any special drivers needed. The keyboard also has status LEDs on board and, as the name is befitting here, uses audio buzzers to beep out status feedback if desired. The wings and thumb clusters are optional, and come in the package that also includes a carry case. Going for a significant $365 from the dedicated product page (shipping included), the company also offers a no-questions-asked 2-year warranty to help sweeten the deal.
